How To Make Successful TikTok Ads for 2024 (Step-by-Step Tutorial)

In this article, I'm going to give you everything you need to know about running profitable ads on TikTok in 2024 in less than 15 minutes. If you don't know me, my name is Raymond Jamba. I've been doing e-commerce for five years, and I've been profitable for almost all of that time. It only took me a few months to learn, so I believe you can get it too. The reason why I'm making this tutorial is because I remember how difficult my journey was in the beginning; I barely had anyone to help me. So, I want to show you a clear path to your success without it taking as long as mine. All I'm asking from you as a token of appreciation is for you to like this article and share it with at least three other friends.

Why TikTok?

TikTok has over 1 billion active users, making it one of the fastest-growing social media apps right now. You must be asking why TikTok, and the answer is simple: it's where everyone is chilling, and it has low barriers to entry. So, why wouldn't you take advantage of it?

What You'll Learn

In this article, you will learn:

  1. Where to Get Good Ad Creatives
  2. How to Set Up TikTok Ads
  3. How to Scale TikTok Ads (bonus)

Ad Creatives

Ad creative is one of the most crucial elements when running TikTok ads because TikTok users have a short attention span. You need to ensure you are getting User Generated Content (UGC) or green screen content, or people making reviews of your product. This is the easiest way to achieve success on TikTok.

Where to Get Creatives?

I personally use and recommend Viral Ecom Ads. They offer packages at reasonable prices for both VIP and non-VIP members. For example, the Meta splits testing package costs $ 60 for non-members but only $ 15 for VIP members. Similarly, the TikTok split testing package costs $ 50 for non-members and $ 12 for VIP members. If you use my link (which has a 15% discount), you'll get even better deals.

Setting Up TikTok Ads

Now let’s dive into setting up your TikTok ads. We'll be using the business side of TikTok, meaning you'll need an account at ads.tiktok.com or business.tiktok.com.

Creating Your First Campaign

  1. Create a New Campaign via the “Create” button.
  2. Choose Advanced Mode.
  3. Objective: Select "Website Conversions."
  4. Campaign Name: Name it after the product you’re promoting. For instance, "Trending Mic."
  5. Budget Settings: Leave split test, campaign budget optimization, and set campaign budget turned off. We'll set the budget at the ad group level.

Once the framework is in place, click "Continue."

Ad Group Settings

  1. Name Your Ad Group as "Broad."
  2. Select Pixel: Ensure your optimization event is set to "Complete Payment."
  3. Placements: Manually select placement, remove “global app bundle” and “Pangle,” and disable “allow video download.”
  4. Targeting: Leave everything broad, but adjust the location to your target market. For example, US, Canada, or South Africa.
  5. Age and Gender: Select an age range of 18-55 and leave the gender as "both."

Budget and Schedule

  1. Daily Budget: Set $ 50 if you're targeting first-world countries, and around 300-500 South African Rand for South Africa.
  2. Start Time: Set the ad to start the next morning for better optimization.
  3. Optimization Goal: Leave as it is and continue to the next step.

Creating the Ad

Now, let's set up the ad creatives.

  1. Name Your Ad: For example, "Creative 1."
  2. Upload Your Video: Use the videos you got from Viral Ecom Ads.
  3. Add Text: Example - "50% Off + Free Shipping."
  4. URL: Paste the landing page of the product. (Not the homepage!)
  5. Additional Creatives: Add multiple versions of your creatives, allowing TikTok to optimize the best-performing ones.

Finally, click "Submit."

Monitoring Metrics

Here are the key metrics you should look out for:

  1. CTR (Click-Through Rate): Should be over 1%.
  2. Cost Per Click (CPC): Should be lower than $ 1 or 17 Rand.
  3. CPM (Cost Per Thousand Impressions): Aim for $ 5 to $ 10.

Scaling Strategy

When you're ready to scale, here’s a simple strategy:

  1. Clone Your Broad Ad Group: Create 4-10 copies.
  2. Monitor Performance: Evaluate cost per purchase, and pause the ad groups that are not meeting your break-even points.
