TikTok Releases Q1 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report

TikTok has released its Q1 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, providing insight into its efforts to maintain a safe and welcoming platform. The report highlights the number of videos and accounts removed for policy violations, rejected ads, and blocked accounts.

Some key insights from the report include:

  • 61,951,327 videos were removed for violating Community Guidelines or Terms of Service, accounting for less than 1% of all videos uploaded on TikTok.
  • 82% of these videos were removed before receiving any views, 91% before any user reports, and 93% within 24 hours of being posted.
  • 1,921,900 ads were rejected for violating advertising policies and guidelines.
  • 11,149,514 accounts were removed for violating Community Guidelines or Terms of Service, with 7,263,952 potentially belonging to users under the age of 13.
  • 71,470,161 accounts were blocked from being created through automated means.

TikTok aims to contribute to industry-wide transparency and accountability in user safety. The report emphasizes the commitment to protecting minors by including the number of accounts removed from the full TikTok experience for potentially belonging to underage users. This builds upon previous efforts to enhance default privacy settings for teenagers, provide tools for parents and families, and restrict certain features for users aged 16 and above.

The report also features the first security overview of TikTok's global bug bounty program. The program allows security researchers worldwide to identify and report security vulnerabilities, helping enhance overall security. In Q1 2021, TikTok received 33 valid submissions and resolved 29 of them. The response efficiency statistics include an average first response time of 8 hours, a resolution time of 30 days, and an average bounty payout time of 3 days.

Moving forward, TikTok plans to revamp its online transparency center to serve as a hub for transparency reporting and other information related to its efforts in safeguarding the safety and integrity of the platform.
