At TikTok, we are constantly striving to enhance the security of our community's accounts and promote cyber awareness. That's why we are excited to announce the introduction of passkeys for iOS devices.
Passkeys are password replacements that utilize encrypted biometric authentication methods already available on your device. With passkeys, users can sign into their TikTok accounts across multiple devices using Face or Touch ID, offering a faster, easier, and more secure method.
To ensure the privacy and security of users' biometric authentication data, all biometric data remains on the device and cannot be accessed or processed by third-party apps like TikTok. Passkey authentication employs public-private key cryptography techniques, providing an additional layer of security.
By joining the FIDO Alliance, an open industry organization dedicated to developing and promoting authentication standards, TikTok aims to reduce reliance on traditional passwords. Traditional passwords can be vulnerable to loss or theft, which is why passkeys offer a more secure alternative.
Passkeys simplify the login process and significantly reduce the risk of account compromise. Unlike traditional passwords, passkeys cannot be stolen, forgotten, or reused across multiple accounts. They are also highly resistant to phishing attempts, providing protection against the most common type of cybercrime.
To set up passkeys for your TikTok account, we will gradually roll out this feature in specific regions, starting with Asia, Africa, Australia, and South America this month. We plan to expand availability to other regions and operating systems in the future. Once passkeys are available in your market, you can easily enable them for your TikTok account using your iOS device. The next time you log in, you will be prompted to log in through your saved passkey!
