THIS is Why I LOVE Pixelart ❤️ - [Day 14/30] Learning Pixel Art to become a Game Dev #pixelart
Introduction
Whenever I attempt to draw my characters, whether digitally or traditionally, they rarely meet my expectations. However, I've discovered that in the realm of pixel art, every decision counts. Once you master the fundamentals, you're empowered to create whatever you envision.
Hello again, it's Day 14 of my journey into pixel art with the ultimate goal of becoming a game developer. Previously on my stream, I focused on creating character sprites, specifically transforming a character into the distinctive style of Stardew Valley. For context, Stardew Valley features characters that are just 16x32 pixels in size. Using the player character as a reference, I embarked on the challenge of adapting that character into the Stardew Valley aesthetic.
So, how close did I get? Well, pixel art is all about making targeted choices. Take my character's eyes, for example; they play a significant role in defining the character. When analyzing the character I created, I decided to emphasize specific features: the ears, the smile, and the head shape. Originally, my character's ears resembled antennas, but a simple adjustment of a few pixels allowed me to transform them into recognizable ears.
Let's talk about that smile. Just by changing the size slightly, the entire character’s expression shifted dramatically. The beauty of pixel art lies in its simplicity; with just a few pixel adjustments, you can completely alter the feel of your artwork. It's one of the many reasons why I’m so passionate about pixel art!
