TikTok is introducing the STEM feed to enhance the discovery experience

TikTok is a platform that fosters boundless creativity and communities. With over one billion users worldwide, TikTok brings people together to learn, express themselves, connect with others who share similar interests, and find inspiration. From the popular #BookTok connections to the cultural trends created through imaginative effects, TikTok offers a diverse range of content.

To enhance the discovery experience on TikTok, we are introducing the STEM feed. This new feature provides a dedicated space for our community to explore inspiring, entertaining, and educational videos related to science, technology, engineering, and math. STEM-related hashtags have already garnered over 110 billion views, showcasing the thriving educational communities on TikTok. The STEM feed serves as a destination for those seeking to delve deeper into these enriching topics. It encourages aspiring scientists to engage in experiments through comments and helps beginners learn coding. The STEM feed fosters co-learning, inspiration, and enrichment.

To ensure high-quality STEM content, we are expanding our partnerships with Common Sense Networks and Poynter. Common Sense Networks will assess the appropriateness of content for the STEM feed, while Poynter will evaluate the reliability of the information presented. Content that does not meet both criteria will not be eligible for the STEM feed.

Eric Berger, CEO of Common Sense Networks, expressed his support for TikTok's STEM initiative, highlighting the value, educational nature, and entertainment provided by these digital experiences for teens. Neil Brown, President of Poynter, emphasized the importance of partnering with TikTok to improve the quality and safety of the STEM feed.

At TikTok, we believe that discovery is essential to the user experience. We continuously strive to help our community uncover new and relevant content. In addition to the STEM feed, we have been experimenting with features like the Topic Feed, currently being tested in select markets. This feature allows users to explore videos across various categories such as Gaming, Food, Fashion, and Sports. We are in the early stages of introducing the STEM feed to our community, and users in the US can expect to start seeing it later this month.
