Establishing a Trust & Safety Team within US Data Security

TikTok is taking steps to enhance the security and compliance of its platform by establishing a Trust & Safety team within US Data Security (USDS). This team will be responsible for building trust and confidence in the protection of US user data. Eric Han, currently the Head of US Safety, will lead this team as the Head of USDS Trust and Safety. Various existing US Safety teams, including the legal policy and threat intelligence teams, will be reorganized into the USDS Trust and Safety team.

The newly formed USDS Trust and Safety team will focus on compliance, safety strategies, and moderation of content involving US users' private data. The Global Trust and Safety team will continue to develop safety policies for the platform and oversee the moderation of content that does not involve US users' private data globally. The content policies and strategies developed by the global team will be reviewed and approved by USDS to ensure compliance with protocols established with the US Government.

Simultaneously, the rest of the US Safety team will merge with the Global Trust and Safety Team to better protect people from harm, maintain platform integrity, and create a joyful environment. By combining the expertise of the teams, TikTok aims to establish more effective safeguards for its global community, with increased manpower and seamless handling of potentially harmful content, issues, and events worldwide.

As one unified Trust and Safety team, they will collaborate to develop policies, processes, and systems that prioritize safety and promote authenticity, diversity, and inclusivity. The team will consist of over 40,000 safety professionals working to keep TikTok safe.

To ensure global policies align with the needs of the local communities, including the US, TikTok is introducing the Head of Country Policy role. Tara Wadhwa, currently the Director of US Policy, will assume this position, bringing her extensive experience in human rights, policy development, and implementation to lead this team.

These changes are aimed at better addressing current challenges, preparing for future threats, and continuing to bring joy, entertainment, and connection to people worldwide.
