Updates to Support Safety and Kindness on TikTok

TikTok is committed to building a community based on respect, kindness, and understanding. To achieve this, the platform is introducing updates to support the safety of its community and promote kindness.

Fostering Authentic Engagement in Comments

TikTok is focusing on fostering authentic engagement in comments. In addition to proactively removing abusive and hateful content, the platform is testing a feature that allows users to identify and flag irrelevant or inappropriate comments. This feedback will help ensure that the comment section remains relevant and a place for genuine engagement.

Safety Reminders for Creators

TikTok is implementing new safety reminders for creators. These reminders will guide creators to the built-in safety tools offered by the platform, such as comment filtering and bulk block and delete options. Creators whose videos receive a high proportion of negative comments will be shown these reminders.

Upholding Community Guidelines

TikTok removes content that violates its Community Guidelines. The platform has released its Q4 2021 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, demonstrating its commitment to accountability and ensuring a safe environment. The report provides insights into the volume of content removed at zero views, accounts removed for suspected underage users, and fake engagement. It also highlights ongoing improvements in detecting, flagging, and removing violative content.

Progress in Content Removals

TikTok has made consistent progress in removing violations before they receive any views. From Q1 to Q4 2021, removals of content at zero views improved for various categories, including harassment and bullying, hateful behavior, violent extremism, and suicide, self-harm, and dangerous acts.

Ongoing Safety Improvements

Ensuring the safety of the TikTok community is an ongoing effort. The platform's latest report and continued safety improvements reflect its unwavering commitment to the well-being of its community.
