TikTok's Commitment to Mental Well-being

TikTok is a platform where millions of people come together to express their creativity, find community, and share their life experiences. It is a place where individuals can find comfort in knowing that they are not alone in what they are going through. Whether it's new parents discussing how to cope with lack of sleep or sharing mindfulness tips to manage anxiety, TikTok users openly and honestly share about important issues such as mental well-being and body image. The community on TikTok supports and uplifts each other during difficult times.

To ensure the well-being of our community, TikTok has taken additional steps to make it easier for people to find resources when they need them. We have developed well-being guides in collaboration with organizations such as the International Association for Suicide Prevention, Crisis Text Line, Live For Tomorrow, Samaritans of Singapore, and Samaritans (UK). These guides are available on our Safety Center and provide tips for responsibly engaging with someone who may be struggling or in distress.

In addition, we feature curated content from our partner organizations to educate and raise awareness about important well-being issues. This in-app programming is currently live and will run from September 10 to September 16.

Furthermore, TikTok has expanded its resources to support users who may be living with or recovering from an eating disorder. When users search for terms related to eating disorders, we provide them with suggested tools and direct them to appropriate resources. We have also introduced permanent public service announcements (PSAs) on certain hashtags to increase awareness and provide support.

To strengthen our support for mental well-being, TikTok directs users who search for terms related to suicide to local support resources such as the Crisis Text Line helpline. We also provide content from our creators who share their personal experiences with mental well-being and offer advice on seeking support and talking to loved ones about these issues.

To ensure the safety of our community, TikTok will be updating its warning label for sensitive content. When users search for terms that may bring up distressing content, an opt-in viewing screen will appear. Users can choose to click "Show results" to continue viewing the content.

We are proud that TikTok has become a platform where people can share their personal experiences, find community, and support each other in matters of mental well-being. We take our responsibility to keep TikTok a safe space for these important conversations very seriously.
