TikTok Collaborates with Barnes & Noble for #BookTokChallenge

At TikTok, we are excited to collaborate with Barnes & Noble and our creator community to bring back summer reading in a unique way through the #BookTokChallenge. From now until August 31, we encourage people to explore new books and authors and share their reactions with the TikTok community using #BookTokChallenge.

The #BookTokChallenge builds on our community's creativity and collaboration to promote the power of books in expanding our minds through reading. With teenagers being home from school and families looking for engaging offline activities during the summer, diving into a new book is something that everyone can enjoy, whether at their favorite bookstore or local library. After finishing a book, individuals can share their thoughts and inspire others to do the same on TikTok.

To encourage participation, we have partnered with popular TikTok creators who have gained recognition for their book reviews on the platform. These creators include @aymansbooks, @bookpapi, @kendra.reads, @kevintnorman, @maistorybook, and @thebooksiveloved. Through their videos, they will promote the #BookTokChallenge and encourage others to join.

The #BookTokChallenge also marks the beginning of our partnership with Barnes & Noble to enhance book discoverability both in-store and online. Visitors can scan a QR code to access a dedicated #BookTok hub, featuring videos from TikTok creators and local Barnes & Noble sellers, as well as popular books recommended by the #booktok community across various genres. This initiative aims to unite our community around the love of reading.

Michele Laikowski, head of Social Media for Barnes & Noble, expressed excitement about exploring new avenues within TikTok. She highlighted the impact of the #BookTok community in discovering favorite books and bringing attention to worthy titles. Barnes & Noble's purpose is to help more readers enjoy good books, and by combining their Bookseller recommendations with #BookTok recommended reads, readers can have their summer plans booked.

With nearly 11 million videos and over 60 billion views globally, #BookTok has become the go-to hashtag for books, reading, writing, and more. It has had a significant cultural impact beyond TikTok. Books have been a form of entertainment for centuries, and in line with TikTok's mission to inspire creativity and bring joy, we created the #BookTokChallenge to encourage book lovers and others to take a break from watching and enjoy the pleasure of reading. Through this challenge, we also hope to empower parents and caregivers to get their teens excited about putting down their phones and engaging in enriching online experiences that they can participate in as well.
