My TikTok Shop Journey

I started my TikTok Shop officially back around August. Though I had set it up initially in 2021, I never went live or promoted it and lacked the know-how. This year I fully committed—uploading products, selling via live and videos, and currently setting up the affiliate marketing side. There are three avenues to sell on TikTok Shop: via products, lives, and affiliate marketing.

Why You Should Dive Into TikTok Shop

TikTok Shop is its own ecosystem. Watching live stream TikTok Shops will show you different companies packing orders live or demoing products. I've personally sold around 10 items despite going live only five times, which makes me a positive example for those who are hesitant.

Setting Up Your TikTok Shop

It's advisable to have a Shopify store as a backup. This is critical for sustainability—do not rely solely on TikTok Shop. You first need a TikTok business account. If you have a personal TikTok account, you can switch it to a business account. Then go to your settings to apply as a TikTok seller. In the UK, you may require an LTD (limited company) and should prepare your certificate of Incorporation, ID, business address, and business bank account ready.

Once everything is in order, you'll be shown how to navigate the backend of TikTok Shop, upload products either manually or by integrating them with your Shopify store. Linking the TikTok app within Shopify will streamline this process.

Promoting Your TikTok Shop

Videos When posting TikTok videos, it's essential to add your product before posting. Use engaging hashtags like “TikTok made me buy it” and ensure your video content is high quality. This helps in getting your videos on the For You Page, increasing visibility.

Lives Going live on TikTok is another strong selling point. Your shop icon appears during the live, and people can shop in real-time. Aim to live stream for at least an hour, but two hours will yield better results. Engage with viewers, use music for comfort, and you can even opt to go live without showing your face.

Managing Orders and Shipping

Orders come through in real-time and appear in your Shop Seller Central app. You will receive notification about orders, including customer addresses. Connect your TikTok Shop with your Shopify inventory and your Royal Mail Click & Drop for streamlined shipping.

Payment and Payouts

TikTok Shop payouts initially have a delay (up to 14 days). Ensure you have a reserve amount for shipping costs until you receive payments. Once the customer has received their package, TikTok pays out directly to your bank.

Using Affiliates

TikTok Shop offers an in-app affiliate marketing section. You can recruit influencers to promote your products, and they earn a commission. Proper pricing strategies will help maintain profitability despite the commissions.
