GET MERRY WITH MARIAN ❄️| EP 2| opening morning, self care evening
Introduction
Good morning, everyone! I’d like to say “happy opening night,” but today, it’s actually opening morning. As I struggle to speak and get my thoughts together, it’s clear that a cup of coffee is urgently needed. Time for a trip to the café around the corner!
As I try to gather my thoughts, I realize I’m not alone in feeling a bit disheveled – both in appearance and mind. After waking up at 9:00 AM to prepare for a show, I can attest that vocal warm-ups at such a time should be considered illegal! Despite the rough start, I am looking forward to what the day has in store.
After a bit of getting ready, I receive a thoughtful card from a friend, which adds a sweet touch to the excitement of opening day. Now, let's get to the theater! We’re excited for the school show today, filled with kids who are ready to scream their hearts out at Christmas songs. Unlike our previous audiences, these children come loaded with their own enthusiasm, and it will be a learning curve trying to engage them while performing.
As the show begins, my fellow cast members and I make sure to give it our all. The kids are screaming and cheering, fully participating in the experience, which is both adorable and a bit chaotic. During our duet of “Stargazing,” we’re surprised by how well the kids know the lyrics. In fact, it’s nearly impossible to hear our own singing over their excitement!
During a break between shows, I have a quick bite at a local pub, desperately needing some fuel to keep my energy up. After a round of fish and chips, I feel a bit more prepared to tackle show number two. The adrenaline rush from performing for such a lively audience is incredible, and the laughter from the interaction is truly rewarding.
The finale sees some unexpected moments. There’s a bit in the show where kids get sprayed with water guns, and the joy on their faces as they shout for more is heartwarming.
After finishing the performances for the day, I head home for a well-deserved evening of self-care. My partner Kieran has gone to see a performance of “Wicked,” and although I considered joining, I decide rest is a priority. I whip up a hearty meal, savoring every moment of my cozy night.
Afterward, it’s time for a relaxing bath, where I indulge in rose-scented showers, listen to my friends' voice notes, and plan some quality time with family through FaceTime. As the evening winds down, I grab a holiday movie featuring Kristen Chenoweth and cozy up on the couch, surrounded by a warm ambiance.
This day has been filled with a delightful blend of chaos and joy, and as I settle in for a night of holiday magic, I can’t help but feel grateful for these experiences.
