TikTok's For You, Paige: The First Commissioned TikTok Musical

TikTok has become a platform for Broadway and musical theater enthusiasts and performers to showcase their talent and passion for live theater. With popular hashtags like #Broadway, #Musical, and #TheaterKid receiving billions of global views, TikTok's creator community has helped bring creative ideas like The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical to life. Now, TikTok is taking entertainment to a new level with For You, Paige, the first commissioned TikTok musical. This live performance from a theater in New York City will be exclusively available on TikTok on April 14.

Daniel Mertzlufft, the creative mind behind For You, Paige, is known for starting the Grocery Store Musical trend and the successful Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical. For You, Paige is part of TikTok's #ProjectBroadway, which celebrates and supports theater, musicals, and Broadway. Previous initiatives like Broadway is Back featured live performances, behind-the-scenes content, and streams of the Ratatousical, raising funds for The Actors Fund. These projects exemplify how TikTok is changing the entertainment landscape by connecting people, empowering creativity, and democratizing experiences.

For You, Paige tells the story of Landon, a teenage music nerd, who collaborates with his best friend Paige on a TikTok song inspired by her favorite book series. When Landon's TikTok goes viral, he becomes famous while leaving Paige behind. However, he soon realizes that the stress of doing everything alone is not worth it and seeks the help of Paige and the TikTok community to make the musical a success.

The cast of For You, Paige includes talented actors like Roman Banks, Sri Ramesh, James Henry, Krystina Alabado, and JJ Niemann. The musical features original songs written by Daniel Mertzlufft, Julia Riew, Katherine Lynn-Rose, and others. The live performance will be directed by Maria Goulamhoussen and Emily Maltby, with choreography by Emily and Katie Spelman, and musical direction by Patrick Sulken. The score will be performed by The Broadway Sinfonietta, an all-women and majority women of color orchestra.

Since January 2022, Daniel has been documenting the creative process behind For You, Paige through live sessions, discussing songwriting, plot development, and interacting with the cast and songwriters. The show incorporates TikTok trends and communities, with references to #BookTok inspiring certain storylines.
