Introducing New Tools for Creator Credit on TikTok

TikTok is constantly looking for ways to support and celebrate the creative content shared by our creator community. We understand that inspiration can come from anywhere, and it is crucial to provide creators with the necessary tools to ensure that TikTok remains a platform where creativity is celebrated and credited.

To achieve this, we are introducing new tools that will enable better creator credit and equitable attribution for our community and content originators. These features are part of our ongoing commitment to invest in resources and product experiences that promote a culture of credit. With these new crediting tools, creators will have the ability to directly tag, mention, and credit a video in their description, showcasing the diverse voices on the platform and the strength of our community. Whether participating in a trend, adding a punchline to a joke, or creating the next viral sound, creators can easily cite their inspiration.

In addition to these crediting tools, we are also implementing more user prompts and educational pop-ups throughout the posting process to encourage and explain the importance of crediting. These features will be rolled out to more users in the coming weeks.

Alongside our focus on developing tools that inspire creativity, foster inclusion, and increase creator recognition, we are committed to uplifting trend originators through programs like our Originators series. This series highlights the work of trend originators on the platform and our Creator Portal features a "Crediting Creators" section that provides best practices and options for crediting originators.

To use the new creator crediting tools, follow these steps:

  1. Create or edit a TikTok video.
  2. On the posting page, tap the new "video" icon.
  3. On the video tag page, select a video that you have liked, favorited, posted, or that has used the same sound.
  4. The video tag will be added as a mention in the caption.

It is important to foster a culture of credit and support underrepresented creators in being properly credited and celebrated for their work. We are excited to see how these new tools inspire more creativity and encourage trend attribution across the global TikTok community.
