TikTok's #CreateKindness Campaign: Celebrating Creativity and Kindness

At TikTok, we value creativity and celebrate our diverse community. Our mission is to provide a welcoming space for people worldwide, where they can freely express themselves and support each other. To promote kindness in everyday life, we have launched the global safety campaign and creative video series called #CreateKindness.

This month, we are highlighting the six creator-animators who collaborated with us to bring the campaign to life. These talented creators wrote, animated, and voiced their videos, incorporating their unique styles and personal experiences with online bullying.

Today, we want to recognize Rosie Maharjan (@rosie.gif), a self-taught artist who describes herself as a product designer and illustration artist. Through her illustrations, Rosie sheds light on her personal experiences and amplifies the voices of underrepresented individuals, giving them a platform they wouldn't have otherwise.

When asked about her art style, Rosie describes it as Pop Art minimalism. She finds inspiration in the TikTok community, where she sees the results of countless hours of hard work condensed into 60-second videos. The supportive and talented art community motivates her to share her own work, explore new styles, and venture into new forms of art.

One of the kindest comments Rosie has received about her art on TikTok was, "This is so inspiring!" She loves the idea that her work can invoke the same inspiration she feels when admiring other artists.

If Rosie had to illustrate kindness, she would depict watering a plant. She believes that one small act of kindness can make someone feel loved and help them grow.

When it comes to online bullying, Rosie believes that the anonymity of the internet makes it easier for people to be insensitive. Without seeing the immediate impact of their words and actions, individuals can easily fall into the mob mentality that is prevalent online.

To make the internet a kinder and more inclusive place, Rosie suggests empathizing with each other. It takes emotional maturity to acknowledge when we may have hurt someone, even unintentionally. By taking a step back and trying to understand where others are coming from, the internet can become a more inclusive space.

In her video for the #CreateKindness campaign, Rosie visually represents the impact of small but hurtful comments that devalue her and her identity. She hopes that this animation will give anyone who has experienced similar feelings permission to process them and raise awareness among those who may not realize the harm their words can cause.

You can find Rosie's video for the #CreateKindness campaign on our Discover page throughout the month, as well as permanently on @TikTokTips. We also invite you to join our #CreateKindness hashtag challenge and share the kind comments and inspiring moments you have experienced.
