TikTok's #CreateKindness Campaign: Promoting Kindness and Creativity

TikTok, a platform that values creativity and celebrates diversity, has launched the global safety campaign and creative video series called #CreateKindness. This campaign aims to provide a welcoming space for people around the world to express themselves and support each other. It features six talented creator-animators who have written, animated, and voiced videos reflecting their unique styles and personal experiences with online bullying.

One of the highlighted creators in this campaign is Amy Davies, a UK-based creator known for her cool 1980s/1990s aesthetic, bold colors, and positive messages. Her TikTok channel is highly regarded on the platform.

Amy describes her art style as expressive, vibrant, and playful, with a touch of '80s/'90s influence. She draws inspiration from the TikTok community, which offers a wide variety of art and creative styles. She appreciates how creators work with their own unique resources and passions, whether it's doodling on sticky notes or using industry-standard software. The TikTok community allows everyone to be unique and explore different ideas and styles.

When asked about the kindest comment she has received about her art on TikTok, Amy mentions that most of her comments are incredibly supportive. She is particularly touched by those who mention being inspired by her creations to pursue their own artistic journeys.

If Amy were to sketch or illustrate kindness, she envisions individuals raising each other up out of genuine care. Kindness, to her, means being respectful, listening to one another, and discussing personal challenges without fear of mockery. She also emphasizes the importance of being kind and patient with oneself, being open to learning and change, and having the confidence to follow one's own path.

Amy admires and is inspired by TikTok creators such as @ZoBeeBop, who creates a wide variety of animated content, and @GhostHoney, who is unapologetically himself and has a sharp wit.

According to Amy, what makes the TikTok community special is its accessibility and diversity. Creativity is for everyone, regardless of their background or experience level. Amy herself started taking her creative endeavors more seriously at the age of 18, thanks to the inspiration she found from other creators. TikTok allows anyone to start their creative journey at any point, with just a phone and their own unique perspective. The diversity of styles and personalities among creators fosters a supportive and non-competitive environment.

When asked about why people bully or try to hurt others, especially online, Amy believes that insecurity is the main reason, stemming from a root feeling of fear. While she acknowledges that this doesn't excuse the behavior, she encourages individuals to consider the perspective of the person making hurtful comments. Amy advises against responding immediately and emotionally, as it often plays into the bully's desire for a heated response. Instead, she suggests viewing hurtful comments as a reflection of the commenter's poor mental state and choosing not to engage with them.

To make the internet a kinder and more inclusive place, Amy suggests being open to change and engaging with diverse individuals and communities. This exposure to different perspectives can challenge preconceived notions and lead to more informed and fair decisions. She encourages self-reflection and research to understand one's own biases and beliefs. Amy believes that kindness and empathy can make a significant difference in creating a positive online environment.

For the #CreateKindness campaign, Amy drew inspiration from her love for '90s aesthetics and bold colors. She aimed to keep the expressions in her video dynamic and playful to encourage the audience to address issues related to hurtful comments and promote kindness.
