Promoting Online Safety: TikTok's Commitment to Cybersecurity

School's almost out for the summer! As families prepare for a season of leisure and fun, TikTok is committed to promoting online safety. In celebration of Internet Safety Month, we are partnering with experts and organizations like Cathy Pedrayes, ConnectSafely, the Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI), National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA), Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC), and the Global Cyber Alliance (GCA) to encourage our global community to #BeCyberSmart.

We are excited to share some valuable tips and tools to ensure a safe and supportive online experience. Here are a few:

  1. Surf smart: Be cautious when connecting to unsecured public Wi-Fi and always use strong, unique passwords. Enable 2-step verification for added security.

  2. Keep it all in the family: Explore TikTok's user-friendly safety and privacy controls to customize your online experience.

  3. Avoid phishing: Be wary of opening links or attachments from unknown senders to protect your personal information.

  4. Leave no trace: Keep your devices and apps updated with the latest software. Before getting rid of old devices, back up your personal data and erase all content and settings.

  5. Play, watch, and learn together: Engage as a family by downloading apps, watching videos, and playing games together. This fosters camaraderie across generations.

In collaboration with the Global Cyber Alliance (GCA), TikTok is developing a cyber toolkit for families. With the support of over 100 partners worldwide, GCA shares our commitment to cybersecurity and privacy. This free guide will provide step-by-step instructions to help individuals and families develop strong cybersecurity habits.

TikTok's global and vibrant community provides a powerful platform for spreading cybersecurity awareness and knowledge. Together, we are working towards building a safer and more secure world.
