How to Use TikTok - Beginners' Guide 2024

Welcome to the world of TikTok! If you're new to this popular app, fear not. In this guide, we'll walk you through all the basics to help you get started. I'm Jessica from TechBoomers.com, and this is a comprehensive beginner's guide to using the TikTok app.

Getting Started

If you haven’t downloaded the TikTok app yet, make sure to check out our video on how to download and install TikTok. Additionally, if you still need to create a TikTok account, our tutorial on how to make an account can guide you through the process. Links for these tutorials are in the description box below.

The main feed on TikTok is known as the For You Page (FYP). When you first start using the app, this page will mainly display trending videos and content from popular creators. As you engage more with the app, the For You Page will tailor content to your preferences based on the creators you follow, the types of videos you like, and the topics you search for. TikTok’s algorithm is highly efficient in offering content you'll love.

Interacting with Videos

When watching a video, you can use the buttons on the right side to:

  • Visit the creator’s profile
  • Like the video
  • Add a comment
  • Save it to your favorites
  • Share the video

Tapping the sound icon will let you see details about the sound or song used, along with other videos that use the same audio.

Searching for Content

To find specific content or creators, tap the magnifying glass icon in the top right corner to access the search page. You can search for names, effects, songs, hashtags, or topics, making it easy to find exactly what you're looking for on TikTok.

Creating Your Own Content

To start making your own videos, tap the plus sign in the bottom menu to open the camera window. Here you can:

  • Record a new video or upload an existing one
  • Choose the maximum length for your video (15 seconds, 60 seconds, or 3 minutes)
  • Add a sound before recording by tapping Add Sound at the top of the screen
  • Apply fun effects or filters
  • Adjust the recording speed for slow-motion or fast-motion effects

When you're ready, point your camera, and start recording by tapping the record button. You can switch between the front and back camera by tapping the circular arrows in the top right corner.

Editing Your Video

After recording, tap the check mark to proceed to the editing screen. Here you can:

  • Adjust the sound
  • Add text, stickers, effects, and filters
  • Access the studio editor for more advanced editing options

Once editing is complete, you can either share it as a temporary post by tapping Your Story or proceed to publish it as a regular TikTok video by tapping Next. Add a caption, tag friends, and include hashtags as needed. Once ready, tap Post to share your video with the world.

That covers the basics of using TikTok. For more detailed tutorials and helpful tips, check out our full playlist of TikTok tutorials for beginners. The playlist link is available in the description box below and in the clickable end screen card.
