She Stole the Target Ball

An Unexpected Playground Adventure

It was another typical day at the grocery store until it wasn’t. Family errands took an unexpected turn when a young girl insisted on playing outside Target while her mother was busy with groceries.

"Come on, we got to go," urged the mom, exasperated. "No, Mom, these are so much fun," the daughter replied, thoroughly enjoying the oversized red ball outside the store.

"We have a lot of groceries we have to unload," her mom reminded her. "Mom, just let me play on this; this is not a playground," insisted the daughter.

Her mom's patience was running thin. "You have 30 seconds to get in the car; I'm leaving without you," she warned.

"Wait, wait! No, don't leave without me!"

As they grappled with groceries and playtime dilemmas, the mom noticed her daughter's evolving plans. "I really want to take this home with me," the girl admitted.

Her mother, surprised, asked, "Who's going to help me unload all these groceries? Is [Sweetie] still out there playing?"

Seeing the determined look on her daughter’s face, she resigned, "Well, I'm leaving without her."

Meanwhile, the young girl found what she believed to be the perfect solution. "We need to be super strong to get this out of the floor," she said, before lifting the heavy ball with surprising ease.

"Perfect, you're coming home with me," she declared, triumphant.

The girl’s mother could hardly believe what she was seeing. "What is she doing with that?" she wondered aloud.

Proudly, the girl presented her prize. "Look, I got the ball!"

Her mother was quick to respond, “Sweetie, get that out of the car; we didn’t pay for that.”

The girl, however, was undeterred. “It’s free. Everybody knows everything on the curb is free.”

"Oh yeah, that is true," the mom conceded, half in jest. "We're going to have to come back and get the rest of them too."
