One Month Dropshipping Challenge ($0-$5,000)
Introduction
I embarked on a dropshipping journey over six months ago, experimenting with numerous products and strategies without success. However, I’ve gained valuable insights during this time, and I believe it’s now time to obtain the results I desire. In this article, I document my challenge of testing a single product for one month to see if I can make it profitable. Finding the Product
To kick off this challenge, my first step was to find a product. I created a criteria list to streamline the process, which can serve as a template for you as well. Initially, I utilized Ad Spy to analyze various ads for performance metrics and turned to the Facebook Ad Library to determine if a product was currently successful. After spending three days sifting through 20 to 30 products, I finally decided to test a toothbrush as my product of choice.
Reasons for Choosing the Toothbrush
- Affordability: The product was inexpensive, making it easy to craft enticing offers like “free plus shipping.”
- Competition Levels: The market wasn’t overly saturated, yet there was evidence of promising past analytics.
- Creative Content: Multiple clips were available online that I could compile into ad creatives.
Setting Up My Store
On the fourth day, my focus was on creating a professional-looking website. Switching from the Solo Drop theme to the Beautify theme, I used a light pink and blue color palette that matched the toothbrush. After preparing product images and a compelling product description, I imported reviews to enhance credibility.
Adopting a free plus shipping offer, I planned to charge $ 9.95 for one product, with increasing prices for bundles. This straightforward pricing structure aimed to simplify checkout for potential customers.
Crafting Ad Creatives
Days 5 and 6 were dedicated to producing ad creatives. I scoured platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and AliExpress for engaging product clips. Using Premiere Pro, I edited the footage, adding captions and a banner announcing the free toothbrush. To maximize potential, I created four different versions of my ad.
Launching Ads
On day 7, I set up my Facebook ads and the necessary tracking tools. Implementing a Campaign Budget Optimization (CBO) strategy, I created ten ad sets, each allocated a $ 5 budget, targeting various interests and demographics.
However, by day 10, I encountered a hurdle: my Facebook account was temporarily disabled. After appealing, my account was restored on day 11, and my ads resumed. By the end of that day, I had generated four sales, nearing my break-even point.
Analyzing Performance
Throughout days 12 to 25, I experienced inconsistent sales. I gathered analytics in an Excel sheet, following key metrics like net profit and conversion rates. I tested new targeting options and made revisions based on performance, eventually narrowing my audience to the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
Days 18 to 25 showed significant improvements, with several days recording as many as ten sales. I reached my first milestone, breaching $ 100 in total sales, marking a victory for my efforts.
Final Results of the Challenge
After 26 days of testing, I had recorded:
- 1,961 sessions
- 650 add to carts
- 647 checkouts
- 60 sales
Despite my hard work, my total expenses outstripped my revenue, resulting in a net loss of $ 287.86. As promised, this means I would be participating in the giveaway.
