I Tried Online Business For 60 Days
Introduction
For the last couple of years, I’ve been pondering the same question: Is drop shipping finally dead? Hi, I'm Sebastian, and for everyone suggesting I return to college, I’m here to prove them wrong! I’ve decided to challenge myself by starting a drop shipping business from scratch without any clear product idea or strategy. As a 24-year-old finance YouTuber and self-made multi-millionaire, I teamed up with friends Sebastian and Tim to document this entire process—from product research to building the store and launching ads.
This has been the craziest, most exciting video and experience I've ever shared on YouTube. Throughout this journey, I want to bring you into our discussions and decision-making processes. We did not hold anything back, so you’ll see every aspect of creating our very first store, from naming it to selecting products. Buckle up and enjoy the show!
Product Research and Selection
So, what's the best product we found so far? We came across several interesting ideas, including a foot comfort product for women who struggle with high heels. After a couple of hours of searching, we stumbled upon an inkless printer and other trendy products. After considering various options, we finally selected a two-piece clothing set, which was new and received a lot of positive reactions in the videos we analyzed.
The initial phase included using a software (SaaS) that Sebastian and I developed, designed to create a drop shipping store with just a few clicks based on supplier links. Once we selected the product category of women’s clothing, we came up with the store name, “Fashionista Finds.”
Setting up the store took a fraction of the time compared to my earlier experiences in the industry. We focused on researching competitors, designing the store, and crafting engaging commercials to drive sales. We targeted a $ 65 discount offer to attract potential buyers.
Launching the Store and Initial Sales
The journey took an exciting turn when we received our first order! Our opening campaign's ad spent around $ 80 with promising results: a CPA (cost per acquisition) of around $ 130 on that initial sales day. This led us to start scaling our ads as we isolated which creatives generated the best interest.
We organized a free event for the Drop Shipping team to connect with community members, share insights, and build relationships, all while maintaining the excitement and dedicated effort towards maximizing our drop shipping potential.
Throughout this process, we saw our revenue climbed steadily, reflecting the market's interest in our selected product. We generated various ad campaigns across platforms like TikTok and Google to maximize visibility and conversion rates.
Scaling Up and Facing Challenges
As we continued scaling our efforts, challenges with ad accounts arising (such as ad bans) hindered our momentum. However, we needed to optimize efficiencies and processes to keep performing consistently. We learned that challenges are not beyond resolve; a strong foundational setup is crucial for sustained growth.
At one point, we hit a peak where the sales climbed to $ 10,000 in a single day! By adjusting our strategies, we were able to counterbalance ad costs and improve our performance.
Despite ups and downs, we remained committed to our goal of hitting $ 250K to $ 350K in revenue within the initial 60-day horizon of trials.
Conclusion: Lessons Learned
Overall, in the end, we realized that starting an online business isn't just a quick revenue stream; it requires dedicated effort, an eye for trends, and adaptive marketing strategies. In total across both stores launched, we garnered about $ 276,000 in revenue with a total profit exceeding $ 58,000.
I want to express sincere gratitude to my collaborators, Sebastian and Tim. Without their help, accomplishing this challenge would have been significantly more complicated amid my busy schedule balancing real estate projects and other ventures.
We concluded that drop shipping still has potential; anyone willing to put in the time and effort can find success. Our efforts showcased that adaptability, creativity, and basic marketing skills linked together can lead to success in the drop shipping arena.
