"Here you go," I said.

"You're staring at her," I replied calmly.

"I want the male in charge," they insisted.

"There is no male in charge," I stated matter-of-factly.

"What about the male that owns this building and owns this business?" the customer queried.

"That would be me, but the last time I checked, I'm a female," I answered.

"Okay, then any male. What about that male that works in your kitchen? What's his name?" the customer continued.

"Alex," I said, "Alex is on sick leave today because he stubbed his toe. I'm the most mature person you're going to find."

"I want a male," the customer persisted.

"Fine, give me two seconds," I sighed.

"It's about time," the customer said, visibly relieved.

Finally, I asked, "How can I help you?"
