Beginner Tries Tiktok Organic Dropshipping For 2 Weeks
Introduction
As we scroll through social media, we often come across videos showcasing individuals reaping enormous profits from dropshipping. Intrigued by the success stories, I embarked on my own dropshipping journey to see if I could achieve similar results. Here's a detailed account of my experiences over the past two weeks as I attempted to build a dropshipping business.
Finding a Product
The first step was to identify a product to sell. I started my search on AliExpress, browsing through a variety of items. To enhance my search, I utilized a strategy called the “TikTok make me buy it” method. This involved creating a brand-new TikTok account and exploring viral products that populated my feed. After some searching, I discovered an LED lamp that seemed promising. Its unique feature allowed customers to write messages, and I envisioned a marketing angle that could potentially go viral with humorous or controversial texts.
Once I found the product, I saved the AliExpress link but decided to order the lamp from Amazon for faster shipping. Just a day later, the package arrived, and I was excited to unbox it. After a little struggle, I finally managed to open it, relieved to see that the product was as expected.
Creating the Website
Next came the task of building my online store. I opted for Shopify, taking advantage of their three-month trial for just one dollar. I chose the Dom theme to showcase my product and uploaded photos I'd taken of the LED lamp. To make my store look professional, I used ChatGPT to help generate relevant tags. I also learned that using a color palette of three colors can make a website look less scammy, so I selected black, white, and blue for my design.
To add credibility, I imported reviews from AliExpress using the free Ali Reviews app. With my store up and running, I secured a domain name and connected it seamlessly.
Creating TikTok Ads
With the site ready, I shifted focus to creating TikTok ad content. I spent some time brainstorming ideas for videos and set up a filming area using a blanket on the floor — a common setup for successful TikTok videos. I filmed numerous snippets showcasing the LED pad, incorporating catchy phrases to attract attention. After editing the clips using CapCut and adding an AI voiceover, I had around ten videos ready for release.
Since past attempts to create a TikTok account for myself resulted in a shadow ban, I enlisted the help of my friend Lucas to create an account. I also revamped an old Instagram page to promote the product there.
The Launch and Initial Results
Finally, we were ready to launch. We uploaded our first video on both TikTok and Instagram, but unfortunately, instead of going viral as I had hoped, TikTok hit us with a community guideline strike on our first video. Undeterred, we continued posting additional videos. Over the next few days, we gathered modest view counts — roughly 650 views over two videos, and another video peaked at 2,000 views before plummeting. Instagram didn’t fare well either, with videos only reaching about 10-20 views each.
Ultimately, after tracking our progress via the Shopify dashboard, I discovered that while we had made one sale, it came from my own test of the checkout process, resulting in no actual profit coming from external customers.
Final Thoughts
While this attempt at dropshipping did not yield the results I had anticipated, it does not mean that dropshipping is a dead endeavor. Many individuals continue to generate significant income through it. I have another challenge underway that involves paid ads, which shows more promise. I believe that with time and persistence, I can find success in dropshipping just as I did with YouTube Automation. I'm eager to see how this venture unfolds in the coming months, so make sure to subscribe and tune in for updates!
