24 Hour TikTok Dropshipping Challenge | Shopify 2022

Introduction

Today, I embarked on a thrilling 24-hour dropshipping challenge, where my goal is to find a compelling product, create an online store around it, design ads, and market the product—all with the aim of making sales. There's a twist: if I fail to make any sales, I’ll have to jump into an ice-cold ocean, which is something I’m keen to avoid.

As a beginner in dropshipping, my aim isn't just to sell products but to gain practice and document my journey from novice to expert. With that in mind, let’s dive in and find the perfect product!

Identifying the Perfect Product

Starting off, I’m on the hunt for a product that ticks all the boxes:

  1. Problem Solving: The ideal product should solve a specific problem. This makes marketing easier by directly addressing potential customer pain points instead of just showcasing something "cool."

  2. Good Margins: A product with decent profit margins is crucial, especially when running ads. A good margin ensures profitability after covering ad costs.

  3. Uniqueness: To stand out on TikTok, the product should have a wow factor. Eye-catching products are less likely to be scrolled past amidst a flurry of TikTok content.

  4. Affordable Price: Ideally, the product should be priced between $ 5 and $ 20. More affordable products tend to convert better on TikTok as users may hesitate to buy pricier items.

I begin my search on AliExpress and spot several interesting items. One that catches my eye is a "cat paint paw" product, which has a unique twist but doesn't quite solve a problem. The second option is a harness that allows cat owners to take their cats for walks—while it solves a problem, it lacks that wow factor.

After much consideration, I switch gears and explore Ecom Hunt using my subscription. I find an appealing product, a dog silencer which stops barking using high-frequency sounds rather than electric shocks. Although its price point is a concern, I end up selecting a product that meets most of my criteria, albeit with longer shipping times.

Building My Store

Once I’ve chosen the product, it's time to move on to the website design. I head to a co-working space to set up my store. I create a homepage using free images from Pexels and design a simple logo. Post lunch, I dive into constructing the product page.

My main focus is on using visuals to explain the product instead of excessive text. I source high-quality product images and aim to create a captivating video to showcase the product effectively.

After crafting the homepage and product page, I manage to complete the store. I turn in for the night feeling optimistic about making sales.

Creating Ads

Waking up, I set about creating ads. I develop a total of nine ads but decide to launch only three while posting the rest on my page. The ads focus on visual storytelling, highlighting issues like cat hair finding its way into coffee, before presenting the glove as a solution.

However, upon trying to launch the campaign, I encounter an issue: TikTok isn’t approving my ad account. After some troubleshooting, I discover that having a VPN to appear as if I’m located in the U.S. solves the issue.

The next day, despite my initial 24-hour challenge failing, I move forward with the ad sets. I create four ad sets, targeting different demographics, but after spending $ 17 on ads, I receive no sales.

While I do manage to get 12 clicks to my website, I reflect on the quality of my ads as a potential weakness, concluding that better quality visuals are vital to achieving better engagement.

The Icy Conclusion

As a result of not making any sales within my given timeframe, I fulfill my promise and jump into the frigid ocean. While the challenge didn’t yield the desired results, the experience was insightful, and I shared the journey to show others that success doesn’t require expertise.

I’ll continue to embark on various challenges in the future, alongside other videos centered around business strategies and personal philosophies. If you’re curious about my journey, make sure to subscribe for more updates—you might find an experience that resonates with you!
