24 Hour TikTok Ads Dropshipping Challenge (Everything Revealed!)

Introduction

Introduction

Welcome back, YouTube fam! Today, I’m diving into an exciting experiment I conducted last week—a 24-hour TikTok Ads dropshipping challenge using a product that I discovered during my routine product research. After analyzing the product, I decided to put the magnetic pen to the test and see how it would perform when advertised through TikTok ads. Here’s a breakdown of my experience, showcasing everything from product selection to results.

Product Research & Selection

During my research on TikTok, I stumbled upon a product that caught my attention—the magnetic pen. This pen is not just an ordinary writing instrument; it’s also a tool for helping individuals with anxiety or ADHD and serves as a fidgeting item. Its unique features and entertainment value give it a significant ‘wow’ factor, making it an excellent candidate for dropshipping.

After digging deeper, I found a competitor calling it the “Geeky Pen,” which had garnered 66.4k followers and 2.5 million likes on TikTok, proving that there’s a market for it. One of their top videos accumulated around 600k likes, demonstrating its popularity.

Building the Shopify Store

With the product in mind, I quickly went to my Shopify store, which was already set up for general dropshipping. I created a clean product page for the magnetic pen with the following features:

  • Product Name: Magnetic Straddle Pen
  • Price: $ 19.95
  • Variants: Available in rainbow, black, gold, and silver.
  • Urgency & Scarcity: Noted that only 17 are in stock.
  • Volume Discounts: Encouraged bulk purchases for a better deal.
  • Product Description: Short, engaging, and designed for TikTok with plenty of visuals and gifs.

I included customer reviews through the Luxe app and trust badges to enhance credibility.

TikTok Ads Setup

After preparing the product page, it was time to set up the TikTok advertisements. I launched three conversion campaigns to test multiple creatives—fifteen in total, with five creatives per campaign. Here’s a detailed look at my ad setup:

  • Campaign Structure: Three campaigns labeled as cold tests.
  • Targeting: Kept it broad without any specific demographics or interests.
  • Spending Strategies: Launched at midnight for optimal ad spend across the day.
  • Budget Optimization: Used Campaign Budget Optimization (CBO).

Each campaign was set to target audiences in the US and Canada and focused on optimizing for completed payments. Ad sets featured five different video ads showcasing the pen, with simple, enticing text to capture attention quickly.

Results

I launched this campaign on May 3, and over the course of the next two days, here are the results:

  • Total Ad Spend: $ 357.28
  • Cost of Goods Sold (COGS): $ 80.50 for seven units.
  • Total Revenue: $ 161.61 from seven orders.
  • Conversion Rate: 41%
  • Loss: $ 287.17 after accounting for ad spend and COGS.

While the click-through rate was between 1% and 2%, and the CPM sat comfortably in the $ 1 to $ 4 range, the results showed that this product didn’t perform as expected.

As I always say, in dropshipping, you win some and you lose some. This loss serves as a learning opportunity to improve future campaigns.

Conclusion

This 24-hour TikTok Ads dropshipping challenge was an insightful experience that emphasized the ups and downs of running ads on social media. If you’re looking to venture into dropshipping, learn from my strategies and insights—there’s a lot of trial and error involved in this business model.
