Storytime at the Farm | It's so Expensive to Start a Poultry Business(Tagalog-Bisaya)

Introduction

Yesterday, we conducted a disinfection of the area to ensure it's safe from any viruses, so today I won't be going inside as I didn't disinfect myself. With the staff taking a day off, we'll be back for more disinfection in the next few days to maintain cleanliness and safety. I opened the area to allow airflow, essential after the disinfection process. Once we’re done, we’ll close up and prepare everything for the upcoming days.

As it's already past noon and we haven't had lunch, we're deciding where to eat. We might try a place called Farmhouse later.

We have a new project that we're excited about while we wait for our previous plants to grow. We're starting a dragon fruit plantation, featuring excellent varieties that will yield good benefits. Growing dragon fruit is promising, especially since it's not only productive but also beneficial for health. This variety of dragon fruit was given to us by a friend, helping us start our plantation at minimal cost.

After finally having my lunch, I took some time to check the fridge we recently purchased. For those starting up—especially with poultry—it's crucial to have all essentials ready before the chicks arrive. We also need to ensure we have reliable power, as it will be vital for our operations going forward.

We live in a time where environmental challenges and climate change are real issues we need to stay aware of as we work on our farm projects. Currently, preparations are ongoing to establish the chicken house, and as an added note, I’m glad I’m using our native language to share this!

Though I haven’t yet visited the poultry building, which we refer to as the layer building, I checked the CCTV to ensure everything is functioning well within the farm. We're planning to deliver our products to a well-known restaurant and a grocery store in town.

When starting a business, especially in poultry, it’s essential to be cautious with your stocks. We’ve learned not to give away all our products at once. Having a strategy helps us build a dependable customer base while ensuring we maintain a healthy inventory.

Currently, our operation is considered a backyard business, as we're housing about 1,400 birds. We initially started with 1,000 chicks, as it's advisable to get a sufficient number to ensure good vaccination coverage and overall health.

In the coming weeks, we anticipate being busier than ever. Despite some anxiety, we're also really excited about the future.

As we head back to the city to deliver supplies, I’m waiting on my husband to finish buying vinegar from the market. I hope you enjoyed this little update from the farm, and I look forward to sharing more with you soon!
