Live-Game: How to play against queeside castling | Chess Analysis with Lara Schulze

Introduction

Welcome to the Millennium Chess YouTube channel! My name is Lara Schulze, and I'm a professional chess player from Germany. As a Woman International Master and FIDE Master, I have represented the German national team and have multiple titles as the German champion in classical and rapid chess. I am also a chess coach. In today's session, I will be playing an online game using the Mesto Phoenix chess computer in conjunction with the Millennium chessboard.

How It Works

I logged into my Leechess account and connected the Millennium chessboard to the chess computer, which can also be done using a mobile phone via Bluetooth. Today, I've chosen a quick time control of 5 minutes with a 5-second increment per move, playing with the black pieces.

I will set up a challenge on Leechess, select the desired time control, and then see if an opponent is waiting to play. My first opponent plays E4, and I respond with the Sicilian Defense, 1…C5. The move is highlighted by the board lights, allowing me to focus on the physical board without needing to glance at my computer or mobile screen.

From this point, the game continues, and I describe my moves and strategic considerations. After a series of moves, including responses to White's Bishop on C4 and F3, I find myself in a familiar position in the Sicilian Defense.

Key Moves and Strategy

As the game progresses:

  • I played 2...Nc6, anticipating possible D4 openings from White.
  • I then chose 4...d6 to solidify my position.
  • Noticing the unusual placement of White's Bishop on C4, I developed my pieces accordingly to challenge its effectiveness.
  • Eventually, White played F3 followed by Bishop E7 and A6, building up pressure while also determining how to launch my counterattack.

As White's pieces became more restricted, I seized the opportunity with B5, creating threats and gaining tempo. My opponent's attempts at maintaining a closed position led to important advancements in my attack.

I eventually captured key pieces, resulting in a significant material advantage, culminating in a comfortable finish after successfully executing tactics to corner my opponent’s pieces.

Conclusion

Overall, this game highlighted the importance of leveraging piece placement and maintaining control amid pressure. Playing with the Millennium chessboard provided an enriching, over-the-board feel to this online game, making it an excellent practice tool for anyone looking to enhance their skills.

I hope you enjoyed watching this game analysis as much as I enjoyed playing it! Don’t forget to subscribe to the Millennium Chess YouTube channel for more exciting content. Looking forward to seeing you in the next video!
