I Tried Shopify Dropshipping For 24H To Prove It's Not Dead
Introduction
When it comes to finding a winning product for dropshipping, there are numerous strategies one can employ. In my 24-hour dropshipping challenge, I utilized some of these methods to kick-start my store, run ads, and bring traffic to my Shopify setup using TikTok ads.
Finding the Winning Product
One of the first steps in dropshipping is to identify a product that has proven to be successful in the market. Various tools and platforms like Autod DS, TikTok, and our very own software, Ral, can help in this process. For this challenge, I tapped into Ral, which curates a list of promising products based on daily research.
I came across a product priced at $ 10.39 that showcased a strong “wow” factor. After analyzing its competitor landscape and product page, I figured we could definitely do better. To gauge potential profits, I used a toolkit calculator, estimating a selling price at $ 29.99. With a 5% payment processor fee and a target profit margin of 30%, the calculations indicated a break-even point of approximately $ 17.55, showing good potential for profitability.
Building the Store
For the store's creation, I leveraged AI tools, which allow you to build a Shopify store in about five minutes. Using the "Page Pilot" AI tool, I set up the product page quickly by importing details directly from AliExpress. This streamlined process enabled me to focus on customization and optimization, ensuring the product page was visually appealing and functionally sound.
After the store and product page were set, it was time to explore TikTok for advertising options. I set up a campaign using a promotional code that provided a discount for setting up ads. This part involved crafting engaging and attractive ad content aimed at a broad audience aged between 18 to 55 across the United States.
Running the Ads
Upon launching the ad campaign, I opted for a budget of $ 120 per day, spread across three ad groups. Each group would feature different creatives to test what resonated best with the audience. Following TikTok's guidelines, I disabled comments and downloads on our ads to prevent them from being misused.
Next, I uploaded engaging ad videos that showcased the product's unique features and placed a clear call-to-action—a promotion of 50% off plus free shipping. After everything was set up, I awaited the results of my first day of advertising.
Results and Reflections
After running the ads for a full day, the results were promising. Here’s a brief overview of the analytics:
- Ad Spend: $ 23.35
- Cost Per Click (CPC): $ 0.99
- Conversions: 4 sales
- Total Revenue: $ 190.80
- Profit: About $ 51.55
The campaign tracked conversions effectively, with a conversion rate of 2.21%, which is commendable for such a basic setup. Although this was a great start, there remains significant potential for improvement. My store could benefit from enhanced product descriptions, additional social proof like customer reviews, and promotional offers like bundle deals.
To refine the campaign further, I decided to turn off ads that were underperforming based on the metrics. The key takeaway is that dropshipping success comes down to extensive testing—experimenting with various products, creatives, and marketing angles is essential for long-term success in this business.
Through this 24-hour challenge, I’ve demonstrated that Shopify dropshipping is far from dead. It requires dedication, smart testing, and the right tools to thrive.
