I Tried Dropshipping Using TikTok Ads For The First Time (Insane Results)

In this article, I'm going to share my journey and the results I encountered while using TikTok ads for the first time. However, I decided to switch things up, stop testing my previous product, and dive into a different niche.
Why I Chose Flare Jumpsuit Leggings
After researching the market, I decided to test out flare jumpsuit leggings. The women’s niche is one of the most lucrative dropshipping categories, second only to pet products. Women tend to buy a variety of items online, particularly if those items solve a problem or offer something new and exciting. With this in mind, I realized there was a high demand for flare leggings, as I saw many engaging videos of them circulating on TikTok.
To further validate my choice, I reached out to fellow dropshippers who just started their journey like me. They, too, believed that flare jumpsuit leggings were worth testing. However, this time around, I decided to run TikTok ads instead of relying solely on organic posts, as I cannot test products without dedicated advertising.
My Investment in TikTok Ads
Having previously generated close to $ 11,000 in sales, I figured it was time to reinvest some of my earnings into ads to see if they could propel my business further.
Here’s a breakdown of the product costs. I found the jumpsuit on ZenDrop for $ 6.80, with shipping costing about $ 7.45. Thus, the total product cost amounted to $ 14.25. Operating on the principle of including free shipping, I priced the leggings at $ 36.99 (with a slight additional markup).
Day-by-Day Ads Performance
Day 1:
I launched my ads with a $ 20 budget for two ad groups, utilizing viral TikTok videos made by other creators. By the end of the day, I had no sales and incurred $ 40 in ad costs.
Day 2:
I maintained the same $ 20 per ad group setup and implemented new ads. Unfortunately, I still saw no sales, leaving me at a total loss of $ 80.
Day 3:
On the third day, I followed advice from a TikTok marketing expert, Tactic, who recommended running ads for at least three days. I increased my budget to $ 40 per ad group, totaling $ 80 for that day. To my surprise, I made four sales, generating approximately $ 148 in revenue and profiting around $ 90. The ad spend seemed worth it!
Day 4:
After finally seeing some results, I decided to increase my budget to $ 50 per ad group. I successfully sold 30 units, which brought in $ 682 in profits. That day was astonishing for a first-time ad campaign!
Day 5:
Fueled by my earlier successes, I pushed my spending to $ 200 for the day. Unfortunately, I only managed to make two sales and lost money. This experience reminded me how unpredictable ads can be.
Final Thoughts
This journey taught me that running ads can be a mixture of luck and strategy. While it’s crucial to analyze data and learn from your spending, I acknowledged my luck in this project so far. Ads can either reach the right audience or completely miss the mark. I’ve gained valuable insights that I wish to share in future videos.
