I Tried Dropshipping On TikTok With $250 (realistic results)

Introduction

This week, I embarked on a challenge to start a new Shopify dropshipping business with a budget of only $ 250. The plan was fairly straightforward: find a product, design a store, create ads, and market the product on TikTok using TikTok ads to generate sales and turn a profit. Given that $ 250 isn't an ideal amount for this endeavor, I had to be cautious with my spending, particularly regarding advertising costs.

Finding the Product

To kick off the process, I searched through the GSR Dropshipping website, which offers a wide range of winning products. After scrolling for a while, I found a nano spray moisturizer that seemed promising. However, I decided to continue exploring to see if I could find something even better.

Eventually, I stumbled upon a product that I felt was a great fit — a product designed to tackle static electricity issues. I was convinced this item had the potential to thrive on TikTok, as it was inherently problem-solving.

Before moving on to building the store, I took a moment to highlight GSR Dropshipping’s benefits. Not only do they help fulfill orders, but they also offer reduced shipping times and customizable packaging options, which make any brand appear more professional.

Designing the Store

My objective for the website was to create a niche store that focuses entirely on skincare and beauty products. This would allow me to test various products in the future without needing to build entirely new websites.

Once I finished with the design, I chose a pastel color palette of pink and blue to appeal to a predominantly female audience. I focused on showcasing the product with engaging visuals and incorporated GIFs and a YouTube video embedded via Vimeo into the product page.

Once satisfied, I turned my attention to social media by creating accounts on Instagram and TikTok. With TikTok, I faced challenges, particularly with linking my account to TikTok Ads due to age restrictions. Thus, I directed followers to my Instagram account instead.

Creating Ads

To create effective ads, I decided to outsource the task for around $ 50, ensuring the final product would attract potential customers. I later added my text to the ad sets, with a total of nine ad sets across three different audiences.

As I launched the ad campaign, unexpected issues arose related to linking my TikTok accounts to the ad account. However, despite these difficulties, I swiftly moved forward without the linked account due to time constraints.

Each ad was set at a bidding of $ 50 per day, and my intention was to pause the campaign once I hit a budget limit of $ 200.

Results of the Campaign

After activating the ads, it quickly became clear that things were moving too fast. By the afternoon of the same day, I realized we had already spent around $ 300 — exceeding our budget by about $ 80.

Ultimately, the results were disappointing. We spent $ 301.15, achieving a staggering 41,241 impressions, leading to 214 clicks. However, the hard truth was that we made zero sales.

Conclusion

The experience taught me several lessons. Even with what I believed was a strong strategy, the product choice seemed to hinder sales. I felt disappointed but noted that this outcome was part of the learning process. By attempting these challenges, I aim to transition from a beginner into a more competent e-commerce entrepreneur.
