How I Started Making REAL Money Online Using TikTok Ad from Nigeria
Introduction
In February 2024, I started my journey on TikTok, not knowing much about how to utilize the platform effectively. I had three accounts, but one particular account—despite having the fewest followers—turned out to be the most lucrative. Through trial and error, I learned how to monetize TikTok even with zero followers by leveraging TikTok ads.
Initially, I spent most of my time engaging in gift exchanges during live streams—an activity that seemed to attract followers but ultimately resulted in quick unfollows once I stopped gifting. It wasn’t until I focused on creating valuable content that my follower count increased. In just two months, I grew my first account to 10,000 followers. However, revenue was still elusive, leading me to seek further education.
I joined various communities and participated in lives, but any gains rarely matched the costs of gifting and participating in community taxes. The turning point came when I opened an International TikTok account that gained over 20,000 followers in a matter of weeks, thanks to a viral video. Unfortunately, I soon learned that platform payments required my videos to exceed one minute in duration and to achieve a specific level of views—criteria I had initially overlooked.
As TikTok ads launched in Nigeria, I took the opportunity to delve deeper into how they functioned. After enrolling in a paid training program, I was surprised to discover that much of this information was not widely understood—even by my instructor. So, I decided to develop my training, which aims to help others set up their TikTok ads successfully.
Setting Up Your TikTok Ad
To begin your advertising journey, you first need to venture into your TikTok account. Click on your profile icon, and navigate to the three lines at the top of the interface to access TikTok Studio. From there, you should click on the “Promote” icon. Here you will see the option to select the video you want to promote.
Choosing Your Goals: When promoting a video, you’ll notice three primary goals:
- Get More Video Views: This option helps increase visibility on the chosen video.
- Get Sales: If you have a product to sell or a service to offer, this will direct viewers to an external link, such as a website or WhatsApp.
- Get Leads: This allows users to contact you directly through the TikTok inbox or by sending a phone number.
Once your video is selected, I recommend opting for "Custom Promotion" to better target your audience. You can specify demographics like age, gender, and interests, ensuring your ad reaches the right viewers.
Budget and Duration: TikTok provides some default promotional packs, but customizing your ad budget is necessary. In Nigeria, a minimum of 1,000 naira is required to start, which can cover a one-day campaign. Analyze the recommendations and set the duration that works best—up to a week is permissible.
After confirming your budget, you’ll need to recharge your TikTok account to purchase promotional coins before launching your ad.
Optimization Matters: It’s crucial to emphasize that running ads is more than just clicking a few buttons. Preparing and optimizing your video before posting it can result in significantly better outcomes. This includes selecting the right hashtags and keywords to enhance visibility.
