Beginner Tries TikTok DROPSHIPPING

Introduction

Embarking on the journey of TikTok dropshipping is thrilling yet challenging. With the platform's potential for viral content, it's no surprise that many aspire to sell innovative products that might just capture the audience's interest. In this article, I share my recent experience, the products I chose, and the ups and downs of launching my dropshipping venture on TikTok.

Product Selection

My starting point was to identify intriguing products that could appeal to TikTok users. After browsing through recommendations like "TikTok made me buy it" and "Amazon finds," I found three products to sell:

  1. Plasma Ball: A mesmerizing gadget that creates colorful electrical arcs when touched.
  2. Book Lamp: A charming lamp designed for late-night readers who need a soft glow.
  3. Slush Cup: A fun cup that turns any drink into a slushy when squeezed.

With these products in hand, I focused on building engaging and visually appealing websites aimed at marketing them. I spent five days creating these sites and implementing various customer psychology strategies I learned from Jordan Welch’s recommendations. I dived into the principles discussed in the book "Cash Advertising," particularly focusing on highlighting product benefits in the headlines and using vivid language that allowed potential customers to envision their experiences with the products.

Website Development

My websites, built on Shopify using free themes, featured compelling headlines and emotionally charged descriptions. For example, I described the slush cup with phrases that allowed viewers to imagine the exhilarating feeling of enjoying a chilled slushy. I also offered a free downloadable e-book with slush recipes, added quantity breaks for discounts, and included urgency elements like countdown timers. This approach was aimed at converting visitors into actual customers despite the competition from giants like Amazon.

Posting on TikTok

Next, I launched two TikTok accounts for promoting each product. I learned that TikTok tends to promote the first few videos from new accounts, thus creating an opportunity for virality. On the initial day, I recreated existing viral content for my products, but the views were modest, barely surpassing 2k. I observed interactions and some clicks to my website but was hoping for better results.

Gradually, I shifted to more original content but faced stagnation in views, prompting me to improve lighting and encourage viewer engagement through interactive elements like quirky additions in my videos. While some posts began to garner attention, most products struggled, particularly the book lamp that lagged significantly behind.

On day six, I attempted to reach a U.S. audience, believing it might increase my chances of going viral, but faced setbacks with zero views after using a proxy to access the U.S. region. By day seven, one of my slush cup videos gained considerable traction, racking up about 92k views, yet disappointingly, I sold not a single unit.

Conclusion

The experience taught me that the allure of cool products does not guarantee sales. Successful engagement relies on superior product selection rather than just fascinating pictures. My primary challenge now is to refine my product research skills to identify items that truly resonate with audiences.
