Why I QUIT the Tiktok Creator Fund
Introduction
As a content creator on TikTok, I’ve often questioned the benefits of joining the TikTok Creator Fund. After some time experimenting with my videos and analyzing their performance, I've come to a conclusion: it simply isn’t worth it. Let’s break down my experience in detail.
A Statistical Look
Initially, I was producing videos that consistently received over a million views, and sometimes even 1.5 million. However, after joining the Creator Fund, my performance took a nosedive. Suddenly, I found my views plateauing—consistently stuck around 200 views, regardless of the effort I put into my content. It felt as if the algorithm was limiting my reach because they had to pay me if my videos performed well.
An Experiment
To further understand this trend, I decided to conduct an experiment with two videos: one that qualified for the Creator Fund and one that didn’t. The rules state that videos must be over one minute long to qualify. For the video that didn’t qualify, I made sure to keep it short enough—under the one-minute mark. In just 10 hours, this shorter video garnered 5,447 views. Had it qualified, I would have been able to earn from the Creator Fund because it met the minimum view requirement.
In contrast, the video that qualified for the Creator Fund barely reached 264 views, despite receiving some engagement with 22 likes and 23 comments. The algorithm seemed to consider it performing well enough for continued promotion, yet it didn’t translate into significant views or earnings.
The Decision
This sharp decline in my views and engagement left me frustrated. I want to create content that reaches and helps as many people as possible, sharing tutorials and tips that I’m passionate about. When my videos started hitting the 200-view ceiling, I realized that joining the Creator Fund was not the right choice for me.
Therefore, I have decided to opt out of the TikTok Creator Fund, prioritizing genuine reach over monetary gain. In my opinion, the Creator Fund is a trap; while it promises financial support, it severely limits content visibility. For me, it’s a “no” on the TikTok Creator Fund. I haven’t made any money from it, and it has negatively impacted my views.
