Unlocking TikTok Success: Shirt Shop Analytics Revealed | Weekly Review #2

Introduction

In this week’s review, we dive deep into the analytics of my TikTok shop, which has seen both successes and learning opportunities. Typically, I plan to post these updates on Sundays, but due to a busy schedule, here we are on a Monday. Let’s get right into it!

This week was a significant one for my TikTok shop, not necessarily due to an explosion in sales but because of progress in our fulfillment strategy. I managed to secure a few sales, primarily from friends who took advantage of subsidized pricing. More importantly, I shifted my fulfillment process from handling everything personally to partnering with a fulfillment center—Printful—to meet customer demands.

This decision aligned with my long-term goals, allowing me to concentrate on designing and marketing instead of the tedious tasks of printing and shipping. By choosing Printful, I now have access to a wider range of higher-quality shirts and don't have to worry about fulfilling every order manually.

Establishing this shop was inspired by my girlfriend, Hunter, who had been running her own shop successfully. My research led me to the world of print-on-demand services, and while considering providers, I opted for Printful over Printify. The reason? Printful operates as a centralized fulfillment center, ensuring consistency in quality and service, whereas Printify connects you to various subcontractors with varying inventory and quality control challenges.

I also explored brainstorming and design tools, particularly Figma, which I find beneficial not only for product designs but also as I consider transitioning to UX design if my shop doesn’t reach the income targets I hope for.

One key takeaway from this week was the realization that designing for black shirts is essential, as they tend to sell better than light-colored options. Thanks to Printful’s extensive color range, I can create designs up to 4XL, a notable improvement over previous constraints.

While establishing this shop, I've had to consider legal aspects too, such as acquiring a resale license for Printful transactions. Becoming an LLC seems wise, as it could help reduce expenses while maintaining quality—a crucial balance as margins can be tight.

As for marketing, I found TikTok promotion to be an area for growth. With the help of my brother, we've created engaging video content related to our shirts, significantly boosting our visibility. He achieved impressive views and engagement levels that far surpassed my previous efforts, providing me with insights into what resonates with the audience.

Now, onto the numbers. Over the past week, I generated $ 126 in sales despite primarily friends purchasing products. This indicates a necessity for broader audience exposure. We had 16 unique product visitors, a 128% increase, and I gained insights into the effectiveness of my TikTok promotions, which reached over 1,136 views and nearly 1,000 people in total.

In terms of engagement, my brother's videos generated substantial interest, drawing in around 700 views apiece, while my posts garnered around 29 likes. His ingenuity in blending music with product visuals might be a key strategy moving forward.

Looking ahead, I plan to expand our online presence by launching an Etsy shop. I see this as an excellent avenue to test various designs before deciding what to feature prominently on TikTok. I'm committed to the design process and embrace using my creativity rather than relying solely on external tools like MidJourney.

While my shop isn’t an overnight success, I am motivated and excited about the future. The learning journey has been rewarding, providing valuable experience and insights. As I refine my strategies, I aim to remain driven and adaptable, recognizing that building a brand takes time and persistence.
