TikTok the Worst App for Creators to Make Money | Why I'm Leaving the Creator Fund & How Much TikTok Pays

I've been seeing a lot of complaints about TikTok being the worst app for content creators to make money, and I never believed it until I experienced it myself. Here’s my detailed story and findings.

My Journey on TikTok

Before I joined the TikTok Creator Fund, I had an account that I closed because I opened it in an ineligible country. So, we had to start again. We closed that account, deleted everything associated with it, and started fresh. In less than two months, like one month and two weeks, we managed to gather 400K plus followers on TikTok. Yes, it's that quick. This rapid growth was because many of our videos went viral: 20 million views, 10 million views, 2 million views, 1 million views, and more.

Signing into the Creator Fund

Immediately after signing into the Creator Fund, TikTok significantly brought down our page's visibility. It wasn’t just me; I've heard similar stories from many creators.

So, if you're a content creator, it's not advisable to sign into the Creator Fund. It doesn’t contribute positively in my experience. TikTok brings down your views, your likes, and importantly, your followers’ growth.

The Reality of TikTok Monetization

There are other ways to make money on TikTok, like when you're live and people gift you. But honestly, if you're not a celebrity, how many people will gift you? It's unlikely to be the sustainable source of income you might want from social media.

So, you want to help creators make money via their videos by paying them, but why then suppress the videos? Below, I’ll show you a screen recording of my TikTok page, illustrating the difference before and after joining the Creator Fund.

Screenshots and Earnings

Before joining the Creator Fund:

  • Over 468,000 followers.
  • Daily views and followers increasing exponentially.
  • Viral videos every week.

After joining the Creator Fund:

  • Reduction to one once it went drastically down.
  • Video views plummeted.
  • Drastic reduction in daily new followers to almost negligible.

Here are my earnings (rounded to the nearest pound):

  • 30 pounds total earnings.
  • Daily earnings: 1-2 pounds max, despite consistent posting.

Conclusion

If you're planning to monetize through TikTok's Creator Fund, think twice. It’s possible your followers’ growth and views might be negatively impacted. As for now, I’ve deactivated myself from the Creator Fund, but it hasn’t restored my view counts or follower growth rates.

I’d say TikTok is not a viable platform for creators to make substantial money through its Creator Fund. Explore other avenues on the platform, but proceed with caution.
