Thoughts I Have While On A Plane

Introduction

Air travel can evoke a mix of emotions, from excitement to anxiety. As I settle into my airplane seat, the thought pops into my mind: "Please, no one sit next to me.” But just as luck would have it, there’s someone beside me. Great.

The flight feels stagnant, and impatience starts creeping in. “Why aren’t we moving?” I wonder, my mind racing with the most dramatic outcomes. “What if we crash? What if this is it?” It sounds morbid, but in a way, I’ve had a good run, if this indeed is my last flight. It’s a strange acceptance of fate.

Before I can dwell too much, the flight attendants walk by. Time to act normal. “Would you like something to drink?” they ask. “No thanks,” I reply, attempting to keep my cool. Almost immediately, I regret my decision, wishing I had asked for a ginger ale instead.

As I glance at the screen in front of me, I realize that the passengers next to me are engrossed in watching Twilight. I love that part. Suddenly a revelation hits me: why am I watching their movie? Isn’t there a screen right in front of me?

As the hours drag on, I start to feel the familiar frustration of a lengthy flight. “Are we there yet?” I ask myself. The proclamation of “5 more hours” sends me down a spiral of impatience.

I contemplate the rules of air travel—am I allowed to pee when the seat belt sign is illuminated? Every time the person behind me kicks my chair, my tolerance levels soar. If it happens again, I think I might just throw hands.

Then, there's the realization that my legs have no room. “I swear I'm paying for more legroom next time,” I vow. Time ticks away painfully slowly. “Hasn’t at least an hour passed?” I query, checking the time again only to find there are still “4 hours and 50 minutes” until we land.

With a determined mindset, I finally decide it’s time to use the restroom. At least it’s comforting to know I’m currently peeing over the vastness of the Atlantic Ocean—humor in the absurdity of it all.
