I Tried The Amazon Affiliate Side Hustle (How Much I Made)

The other day, I set up my Amazon affiliate account, picked out some viral products, created meme-style posts for the products, and then scheduled those posts to be shared with some large social media audiences. Let's see how much we've made so far.

One thing that I know impacted our results is that our links, unfortunately, open up in a web browser instead of the Amazon app. You can see here that over about seven to eight days, we had over six thousand clicks, 66 ordered items, a conversion rate of one percent, and total revenue of over a thousand dollars. Our affiliate income, or what we take home, was $ 53.99.

The best part is I set it up, and after that, I haven't had to do anything. Now, if I were to optimize this further, I would look at which items sold the best and find other similar items to promote to these same audiences.

The downside to the Amazon affiliate program that I've found is that their commission rates are ridiculously low for most categories, like three to four percent. In contrast, a lot of other programs offer 15 percent or more, which in this case would have given us at least $ 150 in affiliate earnings on our $ 1,000 in revenue.

I think this proves that affiliate marketing can work and be scaled. But I'd recommend building a niche audience on social media or a blog and then figuring out what you can sell to them.
