I Tried Dropshipping With Meta Ads for 30 Days (first time)

Introduction

Hello everyone! My name is Who, and if you're new to this channel, we're on a mission to earn a million dollars online. The first business we dove into is dropshipping, and today, I'm sharing our journey over the past 30 days using Meta Ads as complete beginners. Stay tuned to find out how much revenue we generated, how much we spent on ads, and ultimately, what our profit looked like.

Finding Products

I get a lot of questions about how to find products for dropshipping. The process is surprisingly simple! I optimize my TikTok algorithm by liking, saving, and continuously watching dropshipping product videos. Search for hashtags like #TikTokMakeMeBuyIt, and keep interacting with those posts until your For You Page starts showcasing dropshipping products. From there, it's all about scrolling through and identifying viral products that you can potentially sell.

After selecting a few promising products, I check the ad libraries on both Meta and TikTok. This research helps me see if other people are dropshipping those items, and if their ads have been running for a while—usually indicating profitability.

Meta Ads: Testing Strategies

Entering this challenge as a complete beginner, I had a general idea of how to launch ads, but I was not part of any Discord group, nor did I invest in courses. Instead, I spent countless hours watching YouTube videos, searching for effective strategies.

I ended up adopting two main testing strategies, which I’m excited to share:

  1. Initial Campaign Structure:

    • I created an Ad Objective (AO) campaign, followed by one ad set with three ad copies. To diversify, I copied these into five ad sets with different targeting options.
    • For the first ad set, I used broad targeting, allowing Facebook's algorithm to optimize targeting. The second ad set retained broad targeting but included an additional interest. The next two ad sets turned off Advantage Plus and relied on original audience settings, adding distinct interests for each.
  2. Multiple Marketing Angles:

    • For our second testing strategy, we identified three marketing angles for our product. For instance, if we were selling a cute relaxation product, the first angle might focus on stress relief, the second on benefits for kids, etc.
    • Each marketing angle would translate into three ad sets, containing three different ad copies. This resulted in a total of 27 ads to test, maximizing our chances for success.

Financially, I started with an allocated budget of $ 10 per ad set, allowing for a daily spend limit of $ 50. If your product is priced higher, consider increasing to $ 20 per ad set.

Performance Overview

Now, let's move into the performance metrics of our campaign. After launching ads on August 20, I spent around $ 3,000 on ads over the 30-day period—an average daily spend of about $ 100. Despite this hefty budget, I gathered insights into unprofitable ad sets while identifying a few winners.

In terms of revenue, we managed to generate $ 649 in total. We completed 135 orders and sold 197 products due to bundle purchases. Our store had a conversion rate of 2%, which improved significantly towards the end.

Ultimately, when we calculated profits, here’s how it broke down:

  • Revenue: $ 6,419
  • Ad Cost: $ 2,999
  • Product and Shipping Costs: $ 2,997
  • Remaining Profit: $ 107

The outcomes suggest that Meta ads are still viable in 2024! A significant part of our revenue came from the latter two weeks after we refined our strategies. I also have 10 new creatives in the pipeline for the coming weeks.

Final Thoughts

It’s important to remember that, although we conducted product research and absorbed a lot of knowledge, luck played a part in our initial success. However, I believe that starting your entrepreneurial journey is crucial. Don’t agonize over perfection—launch, learn, and adapt as you grow. Even if you feel confident, you'll likely look back after some time and recognize areas for improvement.

I hope you find value in my experience. Subscribe for future updates on our progress, and I wish you all the best as you embark on your own business ventures!
