I Tried Dropshipping For 24 Hours (Results)

Introduction

In this article, I want to share my experience of diving into dropshipping over a 24-hour period, showcasing how I generated $ 315 in sales while only spending $ 40 on TikTok ads. I recently started testing a unique product called the Cart PR, which is designed to simplify grocery shopping and is a product I believe has enormous potential. Below, I'll outline the details of my journey, the challenges I faced, and the strategies I plan to implement to scale my business further.

Setting Up for Success

After deciding to test the Cart PR, I set up a TikTok ad campaign targeting individuals who frequent grocery stores. The sales came in during the early hours—one at 2 a.m. and the other at 4 a.m. My store's current conversion rate stands at 1.26%, with a total of eight abandoned carts at a 5% conversion rate. Out of this, I achieved two sales.

Upon checking TikTok's ad manager, I found that I spent $ 39 AUD with an average cost per click (CPC) of $ 0.41 AUD. The cost per thousand impressions (CPM) was $ 8 AUD, and out of my total ads, I generated five abandoned carts.

Analyzing the Data

Analyzing the numbers, I noticed an average order value (AOV) of $ 157, while the average cost per conversion was $ 20 AUD. These metrics indicate that my advertising efforts are yielding a positive return on investment.

Product Description

The Cart PR is designed to save time when shopping by allowing users to place grocery items into crates instead of bags. Once at their vehicles, customers can easily load the crates without repacking, thus enhancing their shopping experience. The product has gained attention due to its innovative features, and I sourced it from a supplier in China at a competitive price.

Current Offers and Variants

Our current promotion offers a 30% discount on the bundle of the cart and two crates, which is priced at $ 105 AUD. Other product variants include:

  • Cart plus two crates: $ 105 AUD
  • Cart only: $ 78 AUD
  • Crate only: $ 37 AUD

To enhance the customer experience, the website includes sections explaining the product's benefits, such as eliminating the need for plastic bags and speeding up the shopping process.

Challenges and Mistakes

While reviewing sales data, I encountered a critical issue. I noticed that all sales were processed via PayPal, with no credit or debit card transactions. Upon investigation, I found that I had mistakenly left the Shopify payment gateway in test mode, which likely prevented customers from using their cards. I quickly fixed this to allow seamless transactions.

Email Marketing Strategy

To maximize sales and recover abandoned checkouts, I intend to set up an email marketing campaign. I am considering platforms like Klaviyo and aim to draft two types of emails:

  1. A welcome offer email for new customers.
  2. An abandoned cart recovery email that will remind customers of their left items.

Additionally, I am transitioning from the Dawn theme to a purchased theme that can visually appeal to customers, making the store look professional and credible.

Future Plans

In the next phase, I will be focusing on enhancing my TikTok ad campaigns and establishing a robust email marketing strategy tailored for engagement and sales recovery. I want to hear your feedback, so feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!
