I Tried Affiliate Marketing With No Money For 1 Week

Introduction

Introduction

Over the next seven days, I decided to challenge myself to make one thousand dollars through affiliate marketing, all while starting from scratch. I aimed to share my entire process, so if you're curious about how I go from zero to a thousand dollars in just one week, keep reading!

Day 1: Getting Started

Today marks the beginning of my affiliate marketing challenge. For those unfamiliar with affiliate marketing, it's a method where you promote a brand’s products or services using a unique affiliate link. If someone clicks your link and makes a purchase or signs up, you earn a commission.

I needed to choose a niche to promote, and after considering options like cooking, finance, fitness, and self-development, I decided to focus on the business niche. The business sector tends to offer higher commissions, making it a smart choice.

Next, I created themed pages on TikTok and Pinterest, intending to utilize these platforms to promote my affiliate links. I chose TikTok and Pinterest because they're known for easier growth compared to other social media platforms. I set up accounts with the username "waytoobillionaire" and designed profile pictures using Canva.

Now, I had to find good affiliate links to promote. I registered on two popular affiliate marketing platforms: Impact.com and ClickBank.com. After completing my registration on Impact, I would have to wait for approval, which usually takes a few hours. On ClickBank, I explored the business and investing category and discovered an affiliate offer that pays users for reviewing apps. I generated my affiliate link and decided to further search for options.

Additionally, I signed up for the Coinbase affiliate program, where I could earn a 10% commission on trades. I was on the lookout for at least two more affiliate programs to round out my options while waiting for my Impact approval.

After about four hours, I received my Impact account approval. I browsed through various finance-related affiliate programs and found the Robinhood affiliate program, which pays $ 5 for each sign-up and an extra $ 20 for users who make deposits. I also discovered the Shopify affiliate program, offering $ 150 for every user paying for their first month after a free trial. I applied for both and awaited further approvals.

Day 2: Starting the Promotion

On day two, I successfully gained approval for the Robinhood affiliate link but was still waiting on Shopify. Regardless, I decided to promote the links I had.

Before diving into my advertising strategy, I announced that I had just released an affiliate marketing course detailing my step-by-step strategy, which helps me earn over $ 15,000 monthly.

I began by placing my affiliate links in my social media bios using a service called Linktree, which neatly organizes all my links under one URL. This way, I could easily share my affiliate links with followers.

To promote my links, I searched TikTok for viral business motivation videos. I downloaded several high-performing videos using a site called Snaptick, ensuring they would help attract views to my new accounts. The goal was to post around two to four new videos every day. My strategy was to focus on the first six videos being viral-worthy, allowing me to gain enough traction quickly and secure at least 1,000 followers within 24 hours.

Results After One Week

After seven days of promoting, I was excited to share the results. Ultimately, my challenge stretched to nine days because it took longer than expected to get approved by Shopify.

  1. TikTok Account: I successfully gained over 1,000 followers and secured a place for my Linktree in my bio. Some videos went viral, especially one featuring a free Shopify trial that garnered over 100,000 views. This drove significant traffic to my affiliate links.

  2. Pinterest Account: While I cross-posted similar content on Pinterest, I noticed slower engagement. Typically, it takes longer for Pinterest accounts to gain traction, but any leads driven from this platform were minimal compared to TikTok.

Now, how much did I make? Although my goal was $ 1,000, I didn't quite hit that number. However, within nine days:

  • 21 people signed up for the free Shopify trial.
  • 6 people signed up for Robinhood.

For Robinhood, I made $ 30, and I would make an extra $ 20 for each user who deposited money. For Shopify, if around 30% of the 21 sign-ups convert to paid users after the free trial, I would earn about $ 900.

These results might not have reached my original target, but they were still quite promising. If I continued this effort, I could potentially earn $ 2,000 monthly with more time.
