I Tested ChatGPT's Video AI for TikTok Ads (Sora)

Introduction

In this article, I'm excited to share my experience using Sora, ChatGPT's AI video generator, to create marketing videos for my new plushy company, Graveyard Goonies. With a spooky collection of plush toys in mind, I aimed to produce engaging video content for TikTok and Facebook advertisements. While there are still some limitations with Sora, the results have been impressive—from basic animations to playful visuals that feature my plushies in various scenarios.

Getting Started with Sora

I began my journey by uploading a simple photo of one of my plushies sitting on a Roomba. This image included text that stated "limited time only." The first prompt I tried was quite concise: “zombie plushy riding on a Roomba around the floor.” The response generated by Sora was imaginative, turning the Roomba into a little transformer with a spinning LED light. However, this was not the type of marketing content I was aiming for.

My exploration continued with larger prompts, which yielded various outcomes. I noticed that with some prompts, the plush would move successfully in a sampled animation, while other attempts resulted in distortions. Even with minor errors, I saw potential in using these videos for advertising—particularly as visual hooks.

Analyzing Generated Videos

After several attempts, I was happy to find a video that matched the essence of my original idea: the plushy moving around realistically while on the Roomba. Even though there were slight discrepancies, such as the plushy having three arms in reflection, the overall progression from still images to animated movement was encouraging.

The fourth video I produced incorporated more movement and even displayed graphical effects. While some parts were cheesy, I realized I could use the better segments of these AI-generated videos to stitch together a coherent and captivating advertisement.

To add a touch of authenticity, I considered featuring a child hugging one of my plushies, so I determined to generate a video where an AI-generated child interacts with my plush toys. Despite the first attempts yielding somewhat awkward results, I was determined to refine my prompts using ChatGPT and discover better ways to guide Sora's capabilities.

Improving Prompts for Better Results

Through trial and error, I learned the significance of providing detailed prompts about the desired action and depiction of my plushy characters. I found that talking into ChatGPT's voice input feature helped generate descriptive prompts quickly.

Using voice-to-text technology, I crafted scenarios where the plushy would engage with a child while making sure to clear up any descriptive inaccuracies in the prompts. For instance, I specified that the plushy's eye should be hanging by a string rather than being held in a hand—this clarity improved the outcomes significantly.

During my exploration, I also experimented with 2D logos and atmospheric animation, but faced challenges with coherence between my source images and the AI-generated videos. Despite these learning curves, I saw progress as I honed my description skills and adapted to Sora's peculiarities.

Conclusion

As I reflected on my project, I became increasingly optimistic about the state of AI video generation. Although Sora isn't perfect and has its quirks, I could see the future potential for more seamless and practical applications. This journey inspired me to continue refining my skills in AI-generated content, knowing that advancements in the field were on the horizon. If you have been considering AI for video marketing, I'd recommend diving in now and experimenting while the technology is still evolving.
