How To Make Money On TikTok (TikTok Monetization Tutorial!)
Introduction
We'll cover everything you need to know about TikTok monetization and the TikTok creative fund so you can start making money on TikTok fast. I'm Jordana Grace, known as "that British girl" on TikTok, and I've been TikToking for a while. You can check me out here. While there are many ways to make money using TikTok, including brand deals, sponsors, and affiliates, this article focuses on TikTok monetization options and the ways TikTok can pay you directly.
TikTok Monetization Categories
Monetizing on TikTok can be broken down into two main categories: Creator Next and Series.
Creator Next
Creator Next offers multiple options for monetization, which include:
Creator Fund
The Creator Fund was TikTok's original monetization opportunity, designed to reward creators for quality and engaging content. However, it's now being phased out for new creators in favor of better programs. Existing members may still earn, though the payout has been relatively low (around 2-4 cents per 1,000 views). This fund is available only in specific regions like the US, UK, Germany, Italy, France, and Spain.
Creativity Program in Beta
The Creativity Program is currently available only for US creators and aims to address complaints about low earnings from the original Creator Fund. To be eligible, videos must be over a minute long. Requirements include being at least 18 years old, having 10,000 followers, and receiving a minimum of 100,000 valid video views in the last 30 days. TikTok plans to expand this program to more regions, including France and Brazil.
Creator Marketplace
The TikTok Creator Marketplace (TCM) is the official platform for brand and Creator collaborations. It simplifies the process of getting brand deals by providing details of what brands are looking for. This platform also coordinates everything within TikTok, reducing much of the back-and-forth typically associated with brand deals.
Live and Video Gifts
This feature allows your viewers to send virtual gifts while you are live, which can be converted into real money. These virtual gifts are converted into TikTok diamonds and then into cash. Requirements for this feature include being 18 years or older, having 10,000 followers, and having an account that’s at least 30 days old. Personal accounts must have a public video posted in the last 30 days.
Tips
Viewers can send you tips directly through your TikTok profile. Unlike gifts, you get to keep 100% of the tip amount after processing fees. Requirements are similar to other monetization options, such as being 18 years or older and having 100,000 followers.
TikTok Series
This is a new feature where creators can sell a series of content. Videos can range from 30 seconds to 20 minutes, and a series can include up to 80 videos. You can set the price for your series, and viewers can purchase access through direct video links or your TikTok profile. Requirements for this feature are being 18 years or older, having an account that is at least 30 days old, and having posted at least three public posts in the last 30 days.
Recommended Monetization Method
Among all the ways to monetize on TikTok, live gifts are considered the easiest due to their simplicity and the dual benefit of engaging with your audience while earning. However, the Series feature also holds promising potential.
