How to GROW your Art Instagram & Tiktok | 2023

Introduction

Hello hello! Today, I'm here to help you out with your Instagram and Tiktok, and how to grow your account and social media presence as an artist. There are so many undiscovered artists out there who just don't know where to start, and maybe you've been trying your hand at the whole Instagram art account thing for a while but just aren't seeing the results you want. Well, today I have five neato handy tips to grow your account.

Introduction

Hi guys, my name is Kit Thomas. I am a full-time freelance illustrator and graphic novel artist. If you want to check out my Instagram or any of my works, I have the links down below. Without any further ado, let's dive into these tips!

1. Find Your Niche

Finding your niche might seem daunting, but it doesn't have to be. Does your art have any sort of theme? Is it watercolor portraits, digital art, comic, fan art, or related to gaming? If you're unsure of your niche, don't stress too much and start by posting what you like. Over time, you'll discover your niche naturally. Don't let comparison to other artists hinder you. Instead, draw inspiration from them and let this drive you to improve.

2. Tags and Times

Everyone knows about hashtags, but are you using them effectively? I'll be sharing a list of high-yielding hashtags relevant to art in the description, which you can curate to suit your posts. Posting without tags is a missed opportunity for free exposure. Save these hashtags to your clipboard or notes for easy access.

Timing is also crucial. Know the best times to post when your audience is most active, like before or after work or school. Over time, review your analytics to refine your posting schedule.

3. Engage the Community

Engagement is key. Respond to comments on your posts, and engage with other artists on their pages. Genuine interactions help build community and foster friendships. Contrary to popular belief, people love watching artists and creators grow, so engage with others without feeling inferior.

4. Big Fat Reels

Reels are a highly underrated tool and Instagram encourages this format significantly. I was stuck at 7K followers for years, but after posting Reels, I almost reached 50,000 followers. Instagram, Tiktok, and YouTube Shorts are all vying for the top spot in this content format.

If you think you don't do videos, consider participating in trends with your still art images. Trends are a perfect way to increase visibility without feeling like a sellout.

5. Joy and Consistency

The last step is to find joy in what you do while maintaining consistency. Joy fuels your passion, and that passion attracts a like-minded audience. Define what consistency means for you, whether it's posting once a week or once every three days. Don't overwork yourself to meet the algorithm's demands at the cost of your well-being.
