FOLLOW ME TO HIDDEN MILE 12 MARKET | CURRENT COST OF FOOD IN NIGERIA THIS DECEMBER 2024

Introduction

Hey everyone, welcome back to my channel! It’s that time again for a Market Vlog, and today we're heading to the popular O Market, a place where farmers sell their produce at a fraction of the price. As we dive into Christmas shopping, we’ll be on the lookout for goat meat and various food items that you won’t want to miss. Editing this video has been an absolute joy, and I'm sure you’ll enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed putting it together.

Upon entering the market, we were greeted by the bustling sounds and vibrant atmosphere. It was immediately clear that the prices were a bit higher than we expected due to the holiday season. My first stop was a vendor selling goat meat, and here’s a breakdown of what I found:

  • The first vendor quoted 120,000 Naira for one goat, while another offered 95,000 Naira.
  • As we haggled, it was evident that the middlemen were inflating prices; it's always better to negotiate directly.

Next, we encountered some interesting prices on other food items:

  • One vendor had goat meat priced at 60,000 Naira, while another priced it at 100,000 Naira.
  • Important tip: Avoid relying on middlemen, as they can raise prices for their commission.

While exploring, we checked the prices in the pepper section. I was shocked to learn that the cost of a crate of tomatoes had risen to 17,000 Naira, up from previous visits where they were 12,000 Naira. Specific price points included:

  • A basket of tomatoes ranged from 35,000 Naira to 55,000 Naira, depending on quality.

When bargaining with the vendor, I learned that buying in bulk can help reduce costs. A group of women was collaboratively purchasing a bag of pepper for 40,000 Naira, which they divided among contributions of varying amounts, making it a clever and economical choice.

As I navigated through the market, I also encountered stalls selling vegetables:

  • The prices for green beans hovered around 3,000 Naira.
  • Carrots were relatively cheaper at 1,000 Naira for smaller quantities.

Interestingly, it was a bit stuffy in the market, likely due to the many vendors packed closely together. I even had to snag a nose mask to cope with the atmosphere.

Remember, the essence of shopping in local markets is the interaction with vendors, the bargaining, and the discovery of fresh, affordable produce. It’s a unique experience, not only because of the vibrant environment but also the chance to support local farmers directly.
