Career Snapshot: Logistics Management Specialist, Team Subs

Introduction

I love my job in logistics; it's challenging. My name is Lily Jones. Seventeen months ago, I came to Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) as a Wounded Warrior after serving in the United States Army. The skills I learned in the Army, I now use for the Navy in my work as a logistics management specialist.

I learned about NAVSEA by attending a job fair for veterans and Wounded Warriors at Marine Corps Base Quantico. When I interviewed with my boss, I knew this was the job I really wanted. The leadership makes the difference.

Today, I support sailors on submarines by helping them find the ports they need so they can conduct their missions. Each port request varies like different stories, all of them are interesting and opportunities to learn something new. I also work with the fleet to streamline supply practices. It's important to pay attention to everything in the logistics flow; otherwise, any mistake can undermine all processing down the line. I find this exciting.

The opportunities to grow also inspire and surprise me. While I am currently working on sustainment programs, I am also learning about acquisition processes and practices. In the future, I want to be a logistics specialist for an acquisition program. That's why I would recommend NAVSEA to any Wounded Warrior. NAVSEA provides opportunities that can change lives.
