August No Buy(ish) update
Introduction
As spring arrives in Australia, it's the perfect time for a reflection on my No Buy (or No Buy-ish) journey. Despite setting some guidelines for myself at the start of the year, I’ve had a mix of success and challenges throughout the months. My guidelines include the ability to replace products once they’re used up and allowing myself the purchase of one product a month to review. The past few months have seen some deviations from my plan, especially when I discovered a newfound interest in fragrances.
Embracing Fragrances
Previously, I was a daily fragrance wearer, but I typically stuck to the same reliable scents. This year, however, I experienced a shift where the allure of trendy fragrances sparked my interest. This unplanned exploration has made me reconsider my initial guidelines and modify them to accommodate this new passion.
Purchases in August
This month, I replaced my Lanolips lip sleeping mask, transitioning from grapefruit to watermelon, which has been delightful. I also said goodbye to two blunt pencil sharpeners that I had been using for a decade because of performance issues. I bought a new one from e.l.f., which worked wonders on sharpening my pencils. My lash glue collection also got a refresh; I purchased a new, fresh bottle after realizing my older glues had dried out.
Furthermore, I made a significant purchase—the new NARS Explicit lipstick. This is the first product I’ve bought for review in months, although I faced a minor setback when I spent a considerable amount of time searching for it.
I did give in to temptation a bit with the Soap & Glory Smoothie Star Breakfast Scrub, prompted by the warm weather and the necessity of exfoliating for skirt season. Additionally, I decided to invest in a new desk mirror after struggling with handheld mirrors for nearly three years. The mirror was a sensible purchase that vastly improved my makeup application experience.
Fragrance Purchases
Unfortunately, while I managed to keep most purchases in check, I did buy two fragrances—LFA A Clair and Imaginary Authors' Whiff of Waffle Cone. Though I didn't necessarily need them, both scents appealed to me. I’m realizing that I need to incorporate fragrance purchases into my project, given my current interest level.
As September approaches, I’m considering my next review product. The choices on my mind are the new Huda Beauty Foundation or Naked Sunday's tinted SPF. A tinted SPF sounds particularly alluring since I lack one in my current collection.
Reflection on Progress
Reflecting on my foundation collection, I have a manageable assortment of products, some of which I plan to reduce further by the year’s end. Despite a few indulgences, I feel I’m being mindful about my purchases, especially with the potential sales approaching in November. Being mindful now will help me brace for the onslaught of holiday shopping.
In conclusion, while I haven’t strictly adhered to my No Buy guidelines this past month, I’ve been consciously navigating my choices and enjoying the process. As always, I appreciate the support of my channel members and look forward to sharing more updates!
