a realistic weekday of business in los angeles as an entrepreneur who loves their job | jt barnett

Introduction

What’s up, everyone? I’m grateful for your attendance in this video. Welcome to my YouTube channel! My name is JT Barnett, and I run a company called Creator X, a recruiting firm focused on connecting creators with brands. While it may seem unexciting, I think it's a dope niche. Additionally, I'm a creator, influencer, and personality myself. In these videos, you’ll see me living my life, building my business, and having fun along the way. Thank you for being here.

Starting the Day

This morning, I visited a local bakery called Bakers Needed and ordered a protein smoothie and an almond croissant, along with a flat white coffee with an extra shot. I also recently set up a coffee machine at home, but I prefer visiting cafes for the experience. After grabbing breakfast, I headed over to my fiancé's office, located in Venice, to take my meetings for the day since she was busy at home. The change of environment is refreshing, and her office is beautiful.

Meeting with Seek

One of my calls today was with a brand called Seek, which you may have seen on TikTok. They’ve been crushing it on social media, thanks to their founder Ben and his team. We built a relationship early in their TikTok days, and now they’re seeking help with their influencer and content strategy, including TikTok shop initiatives. I’ve been largely focused on Creator X lately, but the opportunity to work with people I know and respect to help solve their real needs is something I’m considering. I’m excited to chat with their team!

During the call, Seek informed me that they had their best performing month ever due to Prime Day and their summer launch. They also mentioned a strong potential partnership that we’ve been exploring, and both sides were eager to collaborate. They’re looking for guidance in paid partnerships, free seating, and affiliate marketing, all areas where I believe we can provide value.

Diving into a New Newsletter

I'm excited to share that I'm starting a newsletter! After enjoying other newsletters for the past couple of years, I finally feel ready to deliver my thoughts and ideas directly to your inbox weekly. This newsletter will provide insight into my life, my business, the products I use, and my personal learnings. I plan to cover trending topics in social media, business, and marketing.

This newsletter will also feature some content written by someone assisting me to help streamline ideas, ensuring it's both valuable and engaging. My inspiration comes from various newsletters that creatively convey insights, trends, and thoughts – aiming to balance business advice with lifestyle elements that resonate well.

LinkedIn Strategy

I’ve dedicated some time to LinkedIn recently, and although I don't love creating or consuming content there, I've found it to be an effective driver for B2B relationships. I've partnered with a LinkedIn agency to transform my video content into engaging posts on this platform. Moreover, they’ve started managing my inbox, reaching out to potential clients on my behalf while being transparent about the process. This is a test to see if LinkedIn can be a significant business driver for Creator X.

One important thing I've learned is that allowing brands to tap into their existing community for creator searches is effective. Encouraging brands to share on social media about looking for creators can often lead to finding someone who is already passionate about their product and can create authentic content.

Key Considerations for Brands Hiring Creators

I also want to address how brands can find the right creators:

  1. Look: Does the creator fit the visual aesthetic of your brand?
  2. Interests: Are the creator's topics aligned with your brand's tone?
  3. Strategy: Do they employ a content strategy that can benefit your brand?
  4. Location: Is the creator based in a location that matches your target audience's demographics?

In terms of pricing, we see three different tiers for creators when hiring for 15 videos a month:

  • $ 3,000 - $ 5,000: Creators who can produce varied content styles.
  • $ 5,000 - $ 7,000: Creators with steady traction and engagement.
  • $ 7,000 and beyond: Creators who have built a real community and show consistent engagement across multiple platforms.

##Consistency Over Intensity

At the end of the day, I find that the little actions taken consistently yield the greatest results. As the quote goes, "Consistency beats intensity when intensity isn't consistent." Showing up and doing your best every day is what truly drives progress.

As I wrap up my day, I’ll be booking a hotel for my upcoming trip to New York City and editing some short-form content. Before calling it a night, I plan to hit the sauna and cold plunge. Thank you for watching, and I appreciate everyone's feedback, so please feel free to leave a comment!
