A Day in Life as a Google Data Scientist (Analytics)

Introduction

My day typically starts around 6:00 a.m., and I would say my mornings are the most hectic part of the day because I try to accomplish a lot in those early hours. This includes going for my hot girl walk, getting the kids ready for school, and preparing myself for work.

The first thing I do is make a cup of coffee because I am a self-proclaimed coffeeholic. I take particular care about how I like my coffee, but let’s not dwell too much on that. I work from the office three days a week and from home two days a week; today is an office day, and I’m excited to take you along with me.

After my morning walk — where I enjoy the serene atmosphere of a beautiful lake and trail without my phone — I head back home to make a protein shake. Currently, I’m on a high-protein diet, and I’m committed to eating healthier. After this, I get ready for work and check on the kids to see if they need anything before they head off to school.

Once I’m all set, I hit the road. I used to bike to work but have found myself driving more often lately, mainly due to the infamous Seattle rain—it's quite a challenge biking in that weather! However, I do hope to get back to biking eventually.

Upon arriving at the office around 9:00 a.m., my first order of business is to grab another cup of coffee. Yes, I admit I might have a coffee problem, but I try to limit myself to two cups a day. I've learned to keep my calendar free during the morning hours because that's when I'm the most productive. I prefer using this time for focused work, as I feel my brainpower is at its peak during these hours—perhaps thanks to the coffee!

On this particular day, I'm concentrating on creating an experimentation design for a new feature that my team wants to test. I’ll document my thoughts and later have a team meeting to review the design.

Around noon, it’s lunchtime—a highlight of my day. I usually avoid lunch hour meetings, but today I had one scheduled. I craved a particular food item located in another building, so I took a walk over to grab that before settling into a meeting room to eat while listening to the presentation.

After lunch, I dove into back-to-back meetings with coworkers both in-person and virtually. One meeting involved collaborating with a colleague from New York who is attempting to replicate a methodology I developed. We discussed how it could be applied to his unique situation, brainstorming various ideas together.

I also managed to sneak in a quick call to my mom during a brief break where I caught up and grabbed a snack from the micro-kitchen. After our chat, I returned to my desk, catching up on emails and completing necessary action items for the day.

Once the workday concluded, I shifted my focus to personal projects. I headed to a nearby coffee shop to meet with my social media manager to brainstorm and plan content for my social media outlets, including YouTube. If you’re not subscribed yet, make sure to follow along!

After our meeting, I made my way to the gym. I had a fantastic workout, primarily focusing on weightlifting, which I've recently started. This marked my second workout of the day, and I’m enjoying every bit of it.

That wraps up my day! If you enjoyed this glimpse into my life, please give this article a thumbs up and subscribe for similar content. I'd love to hear your thoughts on what you liked, what you didn’t, and what you want to see in the future.
