We Gave TikTok $1,000 To Boost Our Post | This is The Results! 2022 TikTok Ad Experiment

Welcome back to Getting Social with Nick! In today's video, we will discuss TikTok's new feature that allows users to boost their posts, similar to Instagram's boost post feature. We allocated $1,000 each for five different companies to test out this feature and see the results. Let's dive in and explore how to boost your posts on TikTok and the outcomes of our experiment.

Boosting Your Posts on TikTok

To boost a post on TikTok, follow these simple steps:

  1. Open the TikTok app and access your account.
  2. Click on the three bars in the top right-hand corner.
  3. Select "Creator Tools" from the menu.
  4. Look for the little fire promote button and click on it.
  5. You will see a list of your public videos that can be boosted. Note that not all videos will have the option to boost due to certain music restrictions.
  6. Choose the video you want to boost and click on "Promote" at the bottom.

Setting Your Goals

After selecting the video to boost, TikTok will prompt you to choose your goal. The options include:

  1. More video views: TikTok will show your video to more people.
  2. More website visits: A tab will be included in your ad for users to visit your website.
  3. More followers: A quick follow button will be displayed in your ad.

For our clients, the goal was to get their media in front of more people, so we focused on more video views.

Custom Audience Selection

When boosting your post, it is crucial to select your target audience. TikTok will provide options, but it is always recommended to choose your desired audience based on your product, company, or brand. Letting TikTok decide may not yield the best results.

Budget Considerations

The next step is to set your budget. TikTok's coin pricing can be somewhat confusing. You need to purchase coins from TikTok to boost your post, and the price fluctuates. Keep in mind that the subtotal displayed may not directly correlate to the amount of coins needed. It requires some calculations and may be frustrating, but as you gain experience, you'll find more efficient ways to manage your budget.

Boosting Your Post

Once you've confirmed all the details, you can proceed and boost your post. After boosting, you can periodically check the performance or wait until the boost period concludes.

Experiment Results

Now, let's discuss the results of our TikTok advertising experiment. Although we cannot provide specific statistics due to client privacy, we can share some average numbers per $1,000 invested:

  • Total video views: Just over 153 views per $1,000.
  • Profile views: Nearly 1,500 people visited the profile and watched other videos.
  • Comments: Around 280 comments per $1,000.
  • Shares: Approximately 3,700 shares per campaign.
  • Followers: An average gain of 300 followers per campaign.

Comparing these results to similar ads run on YouTube, TikTok provided about a third more video views. It's worth noting that the value of each viewer may vary between platforms, and it's essential to consider your specific goals and target audience.
